Went all over pearl river wma today and yesterday. Only saw one group of 15-20 greys. Surprisingly, I did not see a single group of teal. Good news is the feed does not look like it got hit to hard by the high water. Did catch my limit of bass though!
Hope the birds show up this week.

Has anybody been out in Lake Borgne in the last few days? How’s the water look out there? Last few times I went water was nasty and I’m trying to decide if I’m going fishing in the basin or there this weekend.

Has anyone been out in the last few days in lake p. or lake borgne? Has the water cleared up at all yet? I was going to make a trip around there this weekend if I can find some half decent fishing water.

I know this question has been asked many times, but with my motor recently stolen I'm in the market for a new one. I loved my 25 Yamaha 2-stroke, but there getting harder to find in good shape and not too great on gas. My three options are looking for another Yamaha 25 2-stroke, spend the extra money on a Yamaha 4-stroke, or do the unthinkable and find a mercury 25 2-stroke. What you guys think?
Thanks

Guys I really need your help.. I just found out my yamaha 25 was stolen between today and Monday. It was taken from our camp on the east pearl river in Pearlington, ms. Any possible information would be greatly appreciated. I know its a long shot, but I figured I'd give it a shot. I'm in college and that was my hard earned money from the past summers, and was my only boat for freshwater fishing and crawfishing. It was locked with chain and locked on the screw brackets but they cut both. They also took my gas tank and battery (for the second time). Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Anyone know how to get in touch with the admin, or what to do with scams involving classifieds? I have a add posted that I'm trying to sell and have got two different replys that are obvious scams asking me to contact them. They contacted me through the la sportsman email system and asked that I contact there personal number. I check the phone numbers and found other reports of scams with those numbers. I just wanted to let the admin know to see if these scamers could be removed. Be aware.

I’m taking a member of the arm forces fishing this weekend and really want to show him a good time. He just reenlisted for the third and final time this past weekend and asked if he could come fishing with me before he leaves town. I fish the Rigolets, Lake Borgne area for specks; however, I know he really wants to get on some reds. Has anyone been catching any reds or specks around the shorelines and/or the Biloxi marsh area this past week? Any info helps. jrhodes15@yahoo.com
Thanks

I have a Minn Kota 36volt RT101 trolling motor (2005-2008 model I’m assuming, used boat) that just recently stopped going forward at any selected speed. However, all speeds in reverse work fine and are strong. I think it’s a speed control issue but I’d like to get some other opinions before I start sinking money into it. Thanks guys

So I recently got a old new rig and am wanting to extend my fishing range an knowledge. I'd like to start fishing on the easten side of the bolix marsh area. I've read old reports of good speck fishing around ninmile, threemile, and blind bay but have never fished the area. I was wondering if all you experenced sportsman might have some tips and tricks for fishing those locations. Thanks

Anyone have a 2000-2007 skeeter bay boat that has had pump problems? I have a 2005 zx 22bay with a blown baitwell pump but am having some trouble getting to it. The only access I see is through the storage bins on either side of the boat, which isn't much room at all. Any ideas??????

Just recently bought a skeetet zx22 bay with a 2005 Yamaha 225 hpdi vmax and was wondering if anyone has or has used one of these engines. I've heard everything from terrible outboards to terrific so im a bit confused on the reliability of these engines. I've done my homework and know about the older models with over/under oilling problems, and of course the Yamaha mechanics are cheerleaders for these engines. I just wanted to hear some real feedback from actuall experience.

Thanks guys

Forgot to mention, filter presses are also used in the fruit juice industry. If the property that you purchased used to farm fruit, that is likely what they were used for.

They look like old filter press plates. They would be wrapped in a filter cloth fabric and pumped full of dirty liquid where the press would remove the solids from the liquid and then opens and dump the dried solid 'cake'. Google 'filter press plates' to see what newer ones look like. Hope this helps.

A comment titled: good to know in response to a report titled: Lake Borgne

Thanks for the info! Hopefully the fishing begins to pick up now that the water has started to clear. This time last year I was doing well along the Biloxi marsh and the rigs in Lake Bornge. It is certainly great news to hear that Capt. Dudley is making a good recovery and back on the water!

A comment titled: HPDI Vmax in response to a report titled: Yamaha HPDI vs Four Stroke

I know this is long but it helped me out a lot.

I was recently doing the same research as you on an HPDI motor. I ended up getting a zx22 bay skeeter with a blown 225 HPDI and replaced the power head on it. I did a lot of research on the hpdi motors and talked to many mechanics about them. I no mechanic but this is my two cents on what I learned about them.

Most of the hpdis that get a bad rep were the big block(I think the 3.3L) series 1 motors. What I found out was that the series one block had a faulty design on them. They will start and idle on only 4 of 6 cylinders to conserve fuel. This worked find; however, ppl began to let there motor idle while parking, then jump in and take off assuming the motor was warm. When the motor is put in gear the last two cylinders get engaged; however, they were not heating properly from the bottom 4. because these 2 cylinders were still cold and the metal has not expanded, when one would take off from the dock it would cause sever friction and scorching. Eventually the cylinders would give out and the power head was blown. There are some simple precautions that can be made to save these motors such as: idle in gear for at least 5 mins before take off, don't dawg the engine out, use good oil, be sure to remove all water from fuel via water separator (water compresses differently than gasoline at 800psi), and simply take care of you investment.

Now, Yamaha has released the series 2 motors (In 2007 i think)that corrected the problems. My power head on my hpdi is now a series two and have had no issues at all in 200 hrs. I'm very happy with the fuel economy and VERY happy with the power it makes. It tough to beat 800 or 1000psi fuel injection. The only drawback I have is the oil consumption.... yamalube isn't cheap.

hope this helps

A comment titled: Retrieve in response to a report titled: Adopting an Adult Lab

Check the dog out and see if he/she likes to retrieve. Labs have a window of time when they are pups to unlock ther 'love to retrieve'. If the dog loves to retrieve, then everything else involved with hunting can be taught. A retriever that truly loves to retrieve will work with you and do what you want it to just to have the opportunity to fetch something up. That is the method I used to train my dog and it has been great!! I strongly recomend duck dog basics by Chris Akin. I trained my last dog and will never sen a dog to school again. Good luck

A comment titled: Good for marsh duck hunting? in response to a report titled: age old debate... 4 vs. 2 stroke

Everything I've researched about the 4 strokes seems to be good except for the weight to power ratio. The only other thing I saw that concerned me was the lack of low end torque, thus having issues in mud/clearing the wheel of weeds. I primarily duck hunt out of this boat, so this could be a issue for me. Have those of you who own the small 4 stokes noticed a problem with this?

I've always used the marine sta-bil stabilizer in my boats, but I have been recently hearing a lot of talk of the new biobor eb stabilizer. I was told that is the company the the military uses in all of it's equipment both land and marine. Have you heard anything about this stuff being worth the money?

A comment titled: 25 yamaha in response to a report titled: stolen motor

I just saw that add. That neither looks like that motor or even a yamaha to begin with. That's just a bad add all the way around. Looks more like a older Johnson or evnrude. Thanks for the heads up, I may still give it a call and see what those pics are about.

The police are coming to look at the boat today. Unfortunately the motor was very clean and well kept with very little markings, but I do have the serial number. Thanks

A comment titled: Had ducks in response to a report titled: Pearl River

Yea, the pearl had a few birds last weekend, but there was about as many people as ducks. Hopefully we will get some new birds down with each front. By the way, the pearl river is unique in that it has both the coastal zone and the east zone depending on what side of hwy 90 you are on. The only problem with the pearl is that the coastal zone area is really not that big. Their is only a couple of large ponds with a lot of small potholes around them, and those large ponds are pretty much owned by a few guys with big mud boats. Not that there doing anything wrong, just hard to compete with.

A comment titled: Ignorance in response to a report titled: Pearl River WMA

I have a camp on the east pearl and have been hunting it hard the last 4 years. This past weekend was the worst I've seen it. There were a few bird when scouting the last few weeks and on youth weekend, but not any more. I'm not exaggerating when I say there were people in every pond. I hunted with anther hunter 100 yds from me sat. and managed to do alright, but by sun the birds were gone or extremely decoy shy ALREADY! I understand people want to have a good time and hunt on a WMA and that's great, but have respect for other hunters, their kids, and nature. Don't go shooting 80 yard shots and sitting on the call all morning, and please obey the rules on a WMA. Hopefully it will settle down there and maybe a few birds will come back. As of this morning all the shooting was south and west on private land without 10000 decoys.

A comment titled: New mud buddy in response to a report titled: gatortail or prodrive???

If your looking at spending that kind of money I'd look into the new sport h or sport v. I have not had the opportunity to ride in one but I have researched them and think they are going to be the way to go in the future. I'm more of a gear guy but I like the instant reverse of the GTR. The new sport models seems to give the best of both worlds on a outboard like frame. If I were spending that money on a new one I would take a look at the sport h and v before I make a decision. Just my two cents.

Last weekend I ran into fish jumping out of the water right at the mouth of the West Pearl. I saw the little glassminnows around and decided to cast a few times. Turns out that they were spanish mackerel about 16-18' long. Tasted good with a little lemon butter and tony's in the oven!!

A comment titled: Lab Training in response to a report titled: Training my black lad puppy

I just recently trained my yellow lab, Benelli, using a mix of waterdog, Tom Dokken, and Chris Akins' duck dog basics. I found Chris Akins video to be the most helpful for training; however, Tom Dokking 'Receiver Training' was a great book for understanding the mindset of a lab from day 1 as a puppy. I would strongly recommend reading it, primarily because of your dog’s refusal to retrieve. It explains how to get the dog fired up about retrieving and how make the dog want to please you and trust you. Benelli has done doubles, triples, and blinds with hand signals now with little to no issues. But more importantly these books, and videos, taught me to understand a dogs thinking which lead to Benelli being very obedient, trusting, and a great house pet as well. So much so that she can bring you a beer! ;)
