With the unpredictable weather we have been having so far this summer, I have been doing more bowfishing than R&R fishing. Sitting here bored at work and decided to post up a few pics of some of our trips so far this summer.

July 03, 2014 at 9:49am

Had some buds come down from North Texas and North La. last week to do some bowfishing on my new boat. The boat performed flawlessly. It was a bit windy and the tides were high, but we hammered the fish.

Hey guys. Last summer 2 of the rodeos had a bowfishing division. Does anyone know if any of the other rodeos are planning to add a bowfishing division this year?

Winds died down Friday afternoon and my daughter was after me to take her bowfishing, so we went make a short trip in Golden Meadow. I let my lil girl and my son do the majority of the shooting and we called it quits in 2 1/2 hrs with:
11 Reds
2 - Drum
1 - Speck
22 Sheepheads

Made a bowfishing trip. Found the blue cats up on the mud flats. Shot 48 blue cats, 3 redfish, 4 sheepheads, 5 common carp and 2 alligator gars. Biggest gar measured 7' 10' and weighed in @ 208# on a non certified scale.

OK guys, this is an idea that I've been thinking on and would just like to get a feel for how many if any of ya'll would use a set up like this.

I have approx 5 acres vacant land off of hwy 3235 in CutOff, 2 miles North of Wal Mart and 1/2 mile South of Golden Motors. I'm thinking about going thru the expense and trouble of making a small RV parking ground. Would be looking to cater to the rec fishing ppl. Maybe set up a covered fish cleaning station with running water and elec. I know I will be going thru a lot of hassle with getting all the permits and such, so I'm just looking to see how much if any interest I would get if I could talk the wife into this.

Just got off the phone with a buddy that is doing the clean up. The group that his boat is with consists of 26 - 50' +/- local trawl boats. They have been roaming and searcing for oil along the coast between the Houma Nav Channel and Timbaleir Islands for over 2 weeks with NO oil sighted, until recently. A big patch of oil is coming into Terrebonne Bay, Whiskey Pass area. Now that the oil is here and the boats are in position to clean (or atleast attempt to clean), BP orders the boats to tie up at the docks in Dulac. ???????????? They say the weather is a concern and don't want the boats out there. We are talking about 50' steel hull shrimp boats here! Can someone please tell me why they can't be working on this oil, even if they have to let it get inside the passes and work in the bays? Why tie the boats up? What gives? Anyone have any idea whats going thru BP's heads on this?

While this whole experience is tragic, at least a little good is coming out of it. I personally know 2 people that have been laid off for 6 months and are now working as cleanup crew. This is only 1 good thing out of thousands of terrible things, but some people need to take advantage of the situation. I'm sure the contractors that are involved with the cleanup are in need of able bodied people. Prayers to the perished and thier families, and a huge Thanks to the volunteers that are helping in anyway that they can.

Finally Made a short bowfishing trip Monday 26th. Conditions were tough, windy and semi-dirty water made the fishing tough. We still managed to box 8 reds & 4 heads. We scratched on the black drum, only seen 2 of them and they were too close to 16' to chance shooting them. My co-pilot started things off with a bang sticking 2 reds and 1 head with his first 3 shots, he then went 0 for 4 on his next 4 shots, but he capped the night with a big sheephead when we decided to call it a night early @ 10:00 pm.

I'm having a problem with an air cooled engine and hoping someone might have some helpfull input. I'm switching from a gravity feed fuel system to a pump. I baught a 12 volt in-line fuel pump. It is the lowest psi pump available, pushing 3.5 - 5.5 psi. The problem is, the pump will force the float open and flood the engine. If I turn on the pump, start the engine, then shut off the pump, it runs fine untill the carb bowl empties, but if I leave the pump running, the gas will spill out of the breather at a steady flow. I've already taken the carb off and cleaned it up ( the float is not sticking ). Does anyone know of an in-line regulator or anything that might work ? The engine is for my bow-fishing boat. Looking to get things going soon, I'm itching to go stick some fish. Thanks, Corbert

A friend forwarded this pic to me, was wondering if any of ya'll also seen it or know if it is the real deal. Maybe another "Hogzilla" ? The e-mail said it weighed 400#.

Biggest 7 Pt I've ever seen on the hoof took a fall after the old smoke pole spoke to him. My dad took the nice 8 Pt.

Congrats to Lisa on her first deer. She was in a box stand in a 4 year old cut-over looking over a food plot when this nice 7 pt made the ultimate mistake. She made a perfect shot @ 75 yards +/- a few. Now we have a new life long hunting member among us. Kajun

Does anyone have any experience with the deerview mirror? I'm just wanting to know if anyone has had a problem with the quality etc .... Thanks in advance for any info. Kajun

Have a few pics of this nice 1, but so far he is only coming around in the middle of the night. Maybe he'll slip up soon. I'd like to take him with my bow.

Sorry bud, I just noticed that you made this post yesterday, so your referring to Friday night. Friday night I was bowfishing on a buds lease just a couple hundred yards south of the PAC reserve, just a little SW of lake bully camp. It is probable that you were looking at my lights. My apologies if I caused you any distress. I make it a point to keep well clear of any camps to prevent that sorta thing.

I run 6 - 400w high pressure sodium lights and they have a yellowish / orange tint to them. I'm pushing 300k lumens, kinda looks like a small sun trying to rise out of the marsh. Lol

There was a small bowfishing tournament held out of a camp on Bayou Faleau last night. 7 boats (just local friendly trny) were participating. I don't know where all the boats went, but I was on the edge of catfish lake. Also ran into 3 other boats that were also bowfishing. With 10 bowfishing boats in the marsh between GM and PAC, it's very possible that the glow was 1 or 2 bowfishing boats.

A comment titled: Re: best way to wire bowfishing lights in response to a report titled: best way to wire bowfishing lights

I use wire nuts and fill them with liquid electrical tape if your running them in conduit. If the connections will be exposed, butt splices with shrink wrap look a lot neater.

I suggest wiring lights thru 3 switches. 1 for each side and the front lights. If passing by a camp, could just turn off the lights on that side and fish right on by with out lighting up their windows.

I could. Work is slow right now and I'll have plenty time for a small project like that as soon as I get this boat finished up and moved out.

You will either have to build it yourself or bring the boat to someone that could. There's just too many variables with sizes, widths, styles, etc... to have a 1 size fits all. I'm almost finished building a bowfishing boat from scratch for a bud. Will be working on the light rail early next week.

E.G. I agree with most of your points, except the shrimp catch. I don't know how much it takes for you to consider it a good shrimp season, but the comercial shrimpers are haveing a banner year all around Grand Isle and up to Golden Meadow. When I seen the amount of Juvenile shrimp in early May, I got excited expecting a good trout year, but so far it has been a bummer.

Could the Booming Redfish population be partialy to blame? IE, competing for the same food / habitat etc. I have NO problem with the abundance of Reds b/c I love to bowfish for them, however, I do also enjoy fishing for specks along the coast and I have also noticed a steady decline in the quality of my fishing trips the past few years.

I just contacted my senators and expressed my objections about this increase. I urge each and evey one in this state to do the same. We can bicker and complain on this site to each other for months, but if the people that are voting on it don't know how we feel?

Yes, people still donate and support CCA because they might get FREE stuff! Sound familiar?

A comment titled: CCA in response to a report titled: Boycott the S.T.A.R.: CCA Efforts Not Founded in Science

CCA was also reportedly behind the state of Texas' push to eliminate fishing for alligator gar during the spawn and limits of 1 per person per day the rest of the year despite the scientific data and studies showing that the alligator gar population is thriving and harvests are actually lower than expected.

When you send your $50 to CCA for the starr tournament, you are actually showing your support for all of their agendas, reguardless if your even aware of what they are wanting to do.

Saying that you will continue to support / enter the tournament 'just' because you might win a boat or a truck, isn't much of a difference from saying that you voted for Obummer 'just' for free stuff.

A comment titled: Shrimp in response to a report titled: Why not wait

B/C when a brownie gets big enough, it will head offshore reguardless if the season is open or not. Then the offshore boats would flood the market and drive the prices even lower before the smaller boats even get a shot at it. Then once the season did open, there would be way fewer shrimp left inside for the boats to fight over.

My Kawasaki Brute Force runs like crap on e-10 gas. Hard to start and no power. I normally don't put e-10 gas in anything but my truck, but once I was in a situation that pure gas wasn't available. E-10 just flat out sucks.

What kind of help are you looking for? A guide to take you out? Info about how to set up a bow or boat? Your request is a little vague, but I'll be glad to help out any way that I can, I just don't know exactly where to start. lol. I've been shooting fish for 10 years now and I'm extreemly addicted to it. I will start out with a lil bit of advise tho, don't try it if you don't really have the time or want a new, I would call it a 'hobby' but it's more like an obsession.
