Making my first trip to Okhissa this weekend. Has anyone been fishing there recently and catching anything? I have been told the fishing there is so so this time of year but can't pass up the opportunity to be out on the water. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Would be nice to get a decent number of boats to show up. As you all know the more boats the bigger the pot! Already have at least 10 boats. would like to double that before next weekend. Spread the word

Media bass is fishing tomorrow. Might not want to deal with all the boats. I think they are launching at segnette.

Congratulations man! This is Josh. Definitely a one of a kind deer. Make sure and post pictures when you get the mount back. Glad I was able to be there and help out. Got one heck of a story to tell for the rest of our lives!

A comment titled: Boat? in response to a report titled: Help with my sons Christmas trip to Venice :(

What size boat are you running? Fished out a Venice a few times and ran a 18 foot bass boat down the river. Was windy and raining and just took it easy and stayed close to the shoreline with no problem. I would not run anywhere in the fog though. If you turn right out of the marina and fish the cuts and rocks by the Plant, should pick up some decent reds. Might even find a bull. Get you a couple packs of Matrix Shad in various colors and different size jig heads. Focus on points and run outs and just jig a matrix shad on the bottom and hold on tight. Green Hornet color seemed the best last month.

No crowd. I was expecting it to be a little crowded but was not bad. Maybe 30 boats total on the lake. most left around 9 or 10. Had a few ski boats out Saturday.

Well fished hard Saturday working points and deep structure. Hooked into two big ones, got them to the boat and both spit the lure at me and laughed. Had one straighten out a treble hook somehow. Just wasnt my day. Did get to learn a new place. Could not beleive how beautiful it is out there. Was able to sight cast to a few in about 10 feet of water but no takers. Sunday was a bust as well. Girlfriend put one in the boat about 3/4 pound. Hoping to make another trip when it cools down some. Was extremely hot out there! Also saw plenty of deerand a bald eagle while fishing.

Well quality is better than quantity in my book. I would be happy with a 5lb. Especially if my girfriend could catch one over 5lbs! I would probably fall out the boat with one close to 8 lbs. Please post picks of the mount when complete. Thanks for the info. I have heard to fish north end off the points and also heard a few say to fish south in the trees. I stocked up on all the recommended baits for out there. Thinking to start off on the north side hitting a few points and drop offs and then work my way south. Will be my first time out so I am sure I will waste a lot of time trolling and watch the depth finder.

Thanks for the info. I am bringing my girlfriend and would be happy if she could catch just one bass over 4 lbs. I have never fished deep water like that but have good electronics. I will stock up on baits and hope for the best. I will post Monday on the outcome of the trip.

I would go to Sweetwater. Very nice people there and will help you in anyway they can. All you have to do is ask. They run a golfcart from the launch to parking area, so no long walks. If you ask they will even launch your boat for you. The dock is new and normally not much of a step into the boat.

Try Loadstar. Seems to be fairly easy to find and very durable tire. Have a utility trailer with them on it for about 8 years now.

I hunt in Clinton, LA. Our deer seem to be nocturnal year round. If I'm not to close to your area and you want to try your technique in different parts of the state let me know.

I have q 2011 chevy crew cab 1500 LS. 4.8L It came with 245/70R17. I put some factory chevy 20's on it. 275/55R20. My speedometer is off 5 mph at 70 according to gps. Just so yall know, the faster you go the more the speedometer will be off, the slower the less it will be off. My speed is accurate to around 45 mph. I check my mpg by dividing the gallons i put in by the miles on the trip meter. So this could be off with the speedometer not reading correctly. I only notice 1/2-1 mpg less with the lareger tires. Not sure of exact dimensions but the 20's are taller and wider than my factory tires.

A comment titled: Hunting in response to a report titled: Fellow Hunters

First off I am only 26 years old and I have been hunting in East Feliciana for 12 years. We have some absolute monster deer on our property. Just my opinion, too many people are worried about seeing 10-20 deer a hunt and killing monster racks every weekend. IT'S NOT CALLED TROPHY KILLING!!! IT'S CALLED HUNTING!! Which means to hunt not kill for those who don't understand. I could care less what the hell is on the deers head. I enjoy hunting and enjoy taking deer for there meat to feed my family. I am not a 'brown it's down' person either! I do not age deer either. I try not to shoot anythign under 100 lbs. I use my best judgement and that is it. I have not killed a deer the past 6 years. This year I have killed 2 already. Those of you who compare us to Mississippi need to go to Mississippi and hunt! Too many people call themselves sportsmans but go around bashing people for killing a young buck or too many does. It doesn't matter what they kill as long as it is a legal deer taken by legal means. Also, to comment on the original post has anyone ever considered how out of control the hog poulation is and how much that impacts the deer?

I would suggest a 25-06 as well. Very fast, very accurate and very flat shooting. I used to shot hand load ballistic tips but ran out and now shot corlocks and love them. I usually get a clean pass through with about a 2'-3' exit hole and they don't walk away with that.
