Water was like glass from 6-about 8:30 then the rain came and the wind was about 10-15. Ended the day with 6 trout average 16 inches.
WINDY WINDY WINDY WINDY WINDY WINDY......... ROUGH ROUGH ROUGH
PS: WINDY and no fish
Any suggestions on a descent baitcast reel that can cast the lighter baits, lasts long, and is less than $60. Also where can I get it. (in lake charles)
I will appriciate a comment.
Me and my dad went fishing Saturday and the water early in the morning wasn't that clear so we went to the west cove at about 9:00 and there were red fish everywhere but could't find out what the heck they wanted. AT about 3:00 (still no fish in the boat) started heading back to Hebert's and the water was super clear and the birds were working like mad. There were about 10 boats in the middle of the lake and they all had there own birds. We hung around some birds and caught all the trout you would want (30 trout in 10 min) but of course they were all 1/4 of an inch too short. But the most important thing was me and my dad had a blast catching all of those trout.
Bait we used: From 6:00 to about 9:00 worked on the topwater but no fish. 3:00 to about 4:00 glow/chartruse sand eel jr.
Talked to other boats at Hebert's and said they caught some keepers but very few but a bunch of trout too but all to small.
Did anyone else have any luck?
PS: Me and my dad finally know how to fish that dedgum lake. (reel fast for specks and use sand eels and reel slow with a spoon for reds)
Look for us on the Lake!! (White Bay Stealth 1880 with a 115 Yamaha) lol
Redeye, would you mind sending me an e-mail with some tips and tricks about what bait to use at different times of the year, what technique you use for a redfish and a speck, some good spots on the lake, and how to work a topwater bait in rough water. Also, if the water is really rough where are some other spots besides the weirs can you go to get away from the rough water?
PS: Going fishing this Saturday and on the 26th! Probably going to hang around Commensary Point and drift and/or anchor along the oyster reefs there.
Me and my son were going to go fishing tommorrow at calcasiu point. How is the fishing there right now? Any suggestions on what bait to use?
I finally got a boat! It is a 2000 model 1880 VIP Bay Stealth. I really enjoy it. What really suprised me was that there was only two problems with it, one was that the idle screw was loose and part of the railing came off. Other than that it is AWSOME!!! The boat has 2 live wells, 2 icechests (both built in), center console, depth finder, 115 Yamaha, 24 v. Great White trolling motor, 6 rod holders, leather seats... I ran it and clocked it at 45 mph so I was pretty happy. A week ago I took the first fishing trip with the two kids, my son and daughter. We stopped at the first wier and it was crowded, so we fished along the bank and my son caught the first fish. It was a 25 inch red. Then my daughter took control and caught 2 17 inch reds and a flounder. Then it was my turn, I caught a 23 inch red and a 20 inch speck. I really enjoyed myself and my kids did too.
Do yall think that this front will move out before Friday?
Does anybody have any reports on place where the specks like to hang out in the north side of big lake? Also what is the best way to tie on any kind of hook or bait?
We got 2 keeper reds at 16 in. and 1 galftop. My son lost his catch 2000 on a bull red. The water wasnt moving much, the only thing that made it move was the wind. It was hot! Water was very clear but no specks. daboatman
Were are there good spots for specks? PLEASE COMMENT. daboatman
Since the specks have moved more north do yall think they are in the Prien Lake area? Because me and my son are going tommorrow. Since the water has been dirty in Big Lake the specks have probably moved farther north into lake charles and prien lake. We went there like 2 months ago and caught two 24-27 inch specks. Any good spots??? PLEASE COMMENT. daboatman
Me and my son are going labor day weekend to fish at Big Lake instead of this weekend because like yall said the specks have been slow lately. Do yall think they will be back next week? (Please Comment) daboatman
Me and my son were going to go fish at Big Lake but the weather is concerning us for Saturday. The weather channel says 40 percent but if there was a thunderstorm we wouldnt know where to go because I havnt been to Big Lake since the Rita, and also we have a small boat.(16 foot polar craft) We went fish at Prien Lake last weekend when it was a 40 percent chance of rain and got 2 reds around 17 inches. Is there any good spots in the Prien Lake area for specks and reds? Should we go to Big Lake or is 40 percent still good weather?(I would appreciate a comment) thank you... daboatman
I'm just getting back into trout fishing in about 15 yrs. I've been going out of Calcasieu Point. What do I look for in the weather report. I don't have any thunderstorm protection with my boat or no camp etc.where are some good spots in the northern part of Big Lake? Me and my son are going to the northern part of Big Lake Saturday....any of yall have any suggestions for a spot for a 16 foot alluminum boat?? I just bought 2 catch 2000s... one original and 1 chartrues. Do yall know anything about the chartreus dye that you put bait in? What are the LSU chubs exactly, are they Cocohoes or grubs...and are they 2 Tone??? Well thats about it.... PLEASE COMMENT
