I'm just cautious about LdWf taking on more land, when in distant memory they were crying about not having any funds. I can remember them crying about have no spare tires, shutting down WMAs,laying off game wardens,if taxes weren't raised to bail them out. There is always been fighting over operational funds, since they operate out of the general fund and have to fight with other state govt bodies to operate. It almost was seem like a hostage situation. With that said,I would like to know want 'management' has taken place since Maurepas WMA has been created. Have you got enough agents to police it from poaching? I was in a hunting club that was annexed, camp burned down ect,and I'm good with that,we should have bought it when we had chance. What I know is that the clubs that had it before at least police the area, had a vested intrerest in stopping poaching. I can sure speak for our club building wood duck boxes, working with LSU on weevils for salvina contol, keeping eye on interior of land. The self clearing box on New River today is still on the dock we built, not the LDWF. I'm just cautious when gov takes over anything.

LDWF have added more land to Maurepas WMA? What have they done to manage what they have already? Where r the new boat launches, wood duck boxes ,salvina control, food plots, access from I-10,new trails, water control structures?

They may want to manage what they already have, instead of taking on more land. IDK if the hunting clubs that had leases before did more to benefit the land than what I have seen since the WMA has ballooned into what it is now.

Call Rep Eddie Lambert, he could tell you. He had all funding and everything ready to go, and then the coor got involved and brought the hole thing to a screeching halt . I guess we needed millions of tax dollars spent on research studies. Might see it in our children's lifetime now.

Well, as long as we're talking about common and not the giant salvinia , I only have experience with the common, the new weevils are doing some good, we just need to keep spreading them. The end result will be like the water lily, we will never be able to totally eradicate it, just hope to control it with interduction of its native enemy, and maybe some cheaper herbicides to come later. Kind of like 2-4D with regards to water lilies.

We are located right on the side of Maurepas wma, and have been fighting it for years. It's killed the duck hunting in this region. We've been working with Lsu with the weevils , and this last batch seems to be working so far, and have witnessed some of the positive effects in Paradis, La. where we collected them. The spray they use for salvinia is so expensive, it's hard to justify it. If ur interested email me ,and I'll fill you in.

Yeah maybe they should remove the M and call it a WA. We ( our hunting club) have been attending all the blind river diversion meetings and there's lots of talk; then talks of studies and then ......no action. We are close friends with the local representative and he said he had all the funding lined up for a Mississippi River / Blind River diversion and was sitting on go, then the corps of engineers got involved, now it's stuck in the mud. I see the same action from the wildlife and fisheries . We used to spray vegetation , build and maintain woodduck boxes, install culverts to divert water flow into the swamp, open trails, plant food plots and work in partnership with LSU to fight salvinia with weevil testing and now to ride past it and see nothing..... Sucks.

A comment titled: LdWf meeting in response to a report titled: LDWF adding more land to Maurepas WMA

My father along with local leaders, biologist, heads of LdWf,concerned sportsman attended a meeting on new Maurepaus WMA and about revitalizing old area 13 Lutchermoore area(across from Kasier aluminum plant, near reserve canal area). Many things were disscussed, water contol structures ,letting swamp go dry then flooding, flood gates, salvina control, ect. The thing I found most interesting is a guy working for LdWf told the panel 'hey guys we are taking in too much land,we cannot manage what we have now!'....I take my hat off to a guy that has the guts to tell it like it is! Although the panel didn't want to hear it,atleast one guy still has the balls to tell the truth and plead sanity to his fellow coworkers. If I was a betting man ,I'll bet they will make some plans to get hold of the billions of dollars from BP for swamp restoration, which sounds good at first glance, but this money will be tied up in studies for many years, with no action, making the private owned study companies millions....your not going to have to look to far or hard to see a brother in law connection, hope I'm wrong...I love this swamp
