Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Waterfowl Study Leader Larry Reynolds will conduct a public Waterfowl Hunting Forum on Wednesday, May 8 in the second floor Courtroom of the Criminal Justice Building at 426 North Ave. F, Crowley, starting at 6 p.m.

Placed wood duck box in backyard last year hoping to see a few. Well this AM I look in backyard and 4 (3 drakes and hen) are all over the box, my fence and backyard. Dogs walking around did not bother them. Awesome since this is so close to businesses and major roadway (river is also close). Looks like I will need to put up more. Need to get a few pictures. Boxes own farm are also full.

Our annual hog purge run. Thank you for the invite look forward to some night hunting of these destructive rascals.
Time to get those wood duck boxes cleaned out or put out. Observed 2 boxes with birds in them this AM. There were 10 woodies on water in addtion to 4 mottles. Pictures to follow over next few months. Get those boxes out-amazing how they will find them.

Slow AM but have been harvesting a couple each day. These will be a goo-ducken. Using axis deer sausage as stuffing.
Decided to partially debone, stuff with deer sausage dressing then bundle in bacon. Now for some oven time. That's what happens down on the farm.

Made first real hunt on property and had a great time watching them cup and splash. Fifteen minutes of fun. Finished off with Coffee with a hint of Honey Jack-what a great AM.

Checked pond and found a variety of plants growing. I think they are panicum, ?, banyard grass, flatsedge and yellow nutsedge. Seem to be good seed food for ducks. Second one ? green with cone type seed head. Spotted about 60 ducks this AM -teal and woodies. Good luck to everyone.
Looking for recipes to make different types of boudin and sausage. Thinking of using duck, goose and rabbit. Anyone try something different than the standard deer, pork or wild hog sausages? Chicken boudin?

Just curious on sightings from various regions and compared to last year this time. In the SW Lafayette area I am seeing more ducks still around than last year. Nesting mottles with a few teal in rice fields and fallow fields. Wood ducks in boxes and flying early AM along Golden Grain. Squealers just arrived in flocks over last 2 weeks. Saw what looked to be a spoony cupping into a rice field....
We made a trip out last week to get a few pics of the ducks nesting in the area. Even got a 'panther' stalk on a rabbit lol. Thanks Tim for the photos.

Team Johan harvested gobbler Friday am. 9.5 beard. First bird. Crept out and 10 min later he came running down lane. Good start after downpour in St. Helena. Not a bad couple days with sightings of 12 chickens. Finally got to add photos. His first and I got to see so many on my first hunt. Made another hunt to secret spot (getting spoiled hunting so close to home)and got a quick limit. Brother snoozed and got out late after flying stopped. Other brother whiffed on his shots. Made a quick timber hunt to try out a loaner from father in law. Only words are SWEEEET. Unfortunately was only able to fire 3 shells LOL. Wood ducks still around in good numbers for late in season. Craws full of rice and acorns. No bands over last few hunts. Plan to build about a dozen more boxes this year and set up for spring. Miss the marsh hunts but loving timber hunts. Left them still coming in-awesome sight. Checked legs and another band. Best hunt on property in decades. Done by 7. Geese are thick in Ebenezer.

Made a hunt into flooded timber again and watched a few groups land. Decided to take next couple drakes that came in - 5 minute hunt and left. Will be back to keep harvesting a few. Wood duck boxes in area appear to have exploded the population. Plan to add another dozen or so after the season. Merry Christmas.

Mixed bag of birds after watching 50+ grays and teal pile into decoys before LST. Spoon, ringneck, redhead, wood duck, mottle, greenheads and grays.Wind off lake was fierce. Front moved a bunch of birds around. Great hunt 'B'.
