Birds were pretty thin compared to what we noramly see for teal season but we managed to scrape togethor a 3 man limit on Saturday thanks to some pretty good shooting. This was the least amount of birds I've seen out there in 3 years. We planned on hunting Sunday and Monday but instead decided to head down to Port Sulphur and fish. We fished Sunday evening and caught 7 reds and some sheephead.... Read More
Has anyone ever had a problem with water getting in the bilge and can't figure out where it's coming from? I fish a 22 Blue Wave Classic and the past few trips I notice that periodicly throughout the day if I hit the bilge pump, about 2 gallons of water flows out. I know my plug is in tight and I looked in the bilge area but can't see anything obvious. My boat has the scuppers with the ping pong.... Read More
Made a trip down to Port Sulphur on Saturday and the wind made it pretty tough on us. I was hoping to get a few hours of calm conditions but it wasn't meant to be as te winds were pumping pretty good at sunrise. But we worked hard and ended up with a decent box of 42 specks, and 10 reds. Unlike last weekend, we had to measure a bunch of fish and we had a few in the box that were just over 12.... Read More
Finally got a good calm weekend to fish after the past few months of getting pounded by the wind. Stayed down at the camp and fished both days limiting out on specks and reds both days! We caught fish all over from Rattlesnake to Lake Grand Escaille, and back over towards No Man's Land. It's amazing how much difference a week can make. Last weekend we were still working real hard for the fish,.... Read More
The wind a dirty water continue to be an issue in the areas I fish in Port Sulphur. Went down to the camp Saturday night and fished very hard Sunday futily searching for clean water. Rattlesnake and Lake Grand Escaille was choclate milk, so we wound up in Bay Batiste on the lee shorline working points. We picked up a few trout, and reds there and doubled back to No Man's Land and caught the rest.... Read More
Made a trip down to Port Sulphur on Sunday in hopes the wind would die down and we could go chase some specks but it wasn't meant to be. We caught a few trout early, but the wind just got too brutal for us, so we decided to head into the marsh and fish for reds. We worked for them but me and my buddy ended up with our limit of reds, 2 drum, and 6 specks. Whenever this wind lays down the trout.... Read More
Fished last Thursday and Sunday and both days were pretty tough. We fished hard Thursday and ended up coming home with 12 reds, 2 drum, 2 trout, and a flounder. Fished ponds off Grand Bayou but never did find a really good concentration of fish, a few here and a few there. Sunday was a better day for kite flying than fishing, and we couldn't find any clean water. The fish apparently had lock-jaw.... Read More
Can anyone tell me where I purchase a casting deck for my boat. I have a 22' Blue Wave and would like to buy a platform that secures to the bow. Couldn't find much on the internet, so any information would be greatly appreciated. Looking for someting in the 200-400 dollar range. Thanks a lot, Jason.
Made a few trips down to Port Sulphur on Sunday and Monday and had mixed results. On Sunday we made our way into Rattlesnake to sight fish for reds and had perfect conditions, clean water and light winds. Only problem was the reds just weren't feeding on anything we threw at them. We probably saw 30 or so fish and only hooked 3. It was pretty frustrating but still awsome to see redfish clear as.... Read More
Can anyone recommend a good dog trainer around the New Orleans area that is reasonably priced? I have a 9 month old lab that I would like to have trained for duck hunting. Any recomendations would be appreciated, thanks Jason.
Been tied up the past 3 weekends remodeling my house and it's been killing me not to be able to get on the water. Been hearing some good reports from Delacroix but don't really hear about Port Sulphur too much. Anyone been fishing out there lately? Last time I was out there we caught tons of sheephead and rat reds. Not asking for any secret spots just want to see if I'm missing out on anything..... Read More
Well, no more sleep deprived work days, 4 am wake up calls during the week, or fingernails that just look dirty all the time. Time to start catching up on honey do's and housework that was neglected since mid November. I was fortunate enough on Sunday to watch the sun set on another successful season for both birds and memories. Every season seems to be more enjoyable than the previous and this.... Read More
Made a good hunt this morning in Caernarvon shooting a nice 3 man limit of blue and green wing teal. Overcast and a light breeze made for good conditions and the birds cooperated nicely this morning for us. I was happy to return the favor to a buddy of mine who took me on a nice hunt to his lease last week. No more sleep deprived work days next week, but that only means one thing for me, last.... Woke up this morning to dead calm winds and heavy fog, but we had to give it a try, so off we went. Headed to Caernarvon in hopes that the water would be higher than it had been the previous 3 hunts, and to our luck it had come up just enough to get into our ponds. The birds were never coming in fast and furious but I had a couple dead eye's on the boat this morning and most of what gave us a.... Read More
Duck hunting's been pretty tough the past week or so, and this weekend wasn't much different. I was lucky enough to get an invite with a friend to his lease on Friday, and we managed 4 dogris, 3 buffelheads, and 1 teal. Not bad for a day where we didn't couldn't get much to come in. The prize of the day for me was a nice drake buffelhead I shot towards the end of the hunt. On Saturday we opted.... Read More
Made a solo hunt before work this morning and it really didn't turn out as I had hoped. Weren't many birds flying where I was at, and the worst part was that my new gun wouldn't even shoot! About 2 weeks ago, I broke down and bought a brand new Max 4 Benelli Supernova. I did my research and saw nothing but good reviews, so I decided what the hell. I noticed on my last hunt that a few times I.... Read More
After 2 consecutive rough hunts (only shooting 1 bird in 2 days), our luck changed with the push of high water on Sunday. Monday and Tuesday gave way to easy access to our ponds and overcast conditions both days. With these 2 factors
working togethor we got plenty shooting oppertunities and shot our limit both days. I'm going back tommorow before work, just hope the plug hasn't been pulled and.... Read More
After our fast paced duck hunt on Tuesday, I was quite confident we would knock em out again but it was not meant to be yesterday. I called a buddy who's been having a pretty tough season, and told him to get cause we gonna go bust up some ducks in Caernarvon. Well, needless to say he made a liar out of me, and we only shot one duck all morning. I couldn't wait to get out and shoot my brand new.... Read More
Made a quick morning hunt before work and had a nice shoot killing a 3 man limit of teal and dos gris. We woke up to a nice overcast sky and a light mist in the air, making for good conditions where we hunt. Good shooting made for an early day and we were done by 8:15. I noticed that the dogs we shot were a lot bigger than the ones we normaly see and instead of purple they had a green tint to.... Read More
Made a good hunt in Caernarvon Friday shooting a 3 man limit of teal, mottled, and spoonbill. We saw the most big bands of teal flying that I have seen all year, 40 and 50 at a time buzzing through the pond. We stayed a little after we were done and just watched em fly, it was quite a sight. Funny thing is that when we went back on Sunday, we didn't get many shots at all. We ended the hunt with.... Read More
