I took my 12 yr old nephew duck hunting for the first time yesterday and we hammered them. He had his brand new shotgun that he got for Christmas and he put it to good use. Boy, we have been chasing the birds for the last 2 weeks and we finally got on em good in the woods. 2 or 3 chuckles on the call and they were breaking from the sky and landing in our decoys. Perfect day, but my dog was a bit cold as he climbed up about 6 feet in the air over the blind in a tree an proceeded to launch off of that after we knocked the birds down...unbelievable! After attacking the fishing scene, harder than I have since I was a kid, this year success has finally landed in my boat. Started the 2nd Split in a flurry....birds everywhere on Catahoula, I could have sworn I was watching TV. Ended up with 16 between the 3 of us. Not a bad hunt. 5 mallards, 5 teal, 3 pintail and 3 greys. My dad limited Sunday, but I had a dog gone Xmas party to go to with my wife and the cold drinks were flowing so needless to say I made a late morning mallard hunt in the Basin and struck.... ABOSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL 1st split for us. Started rough and didnt get water to our blind until after T-Giving so we hunted Saline for the first couple days BUT we started hammering the birds. Pintail, Teal and Greys like i have never seen before. No calling necessary, just get ready cause they are coming in. Well I had my practice hunt in Gueydan before heading up to my camp for opening day of duck on Catahoula Lake Saturday. We didnt do too bad. 4 man limit with 2 specks and i didnt want to leave but the phone was blowing up for work. All good, last day at work today until Monday after T-giving....ready to blast!

FINALLY....other than hunting leases and campers, my dad and I have finally built us a camp! it took us a total of 3 years of looking to find the spot and luckily we are 2 camps down from my cousin and across the road from his friend who I grew up with...by accident! Took my future duck killer on his first boat ride on Sunday and he enjoyed it. he just looked around and soaked it all in. he was so relaxed that he passed out for the last 10 minutes of the ride. on the bright side, before we left the landing I told him that he couldnt take his life jacket off until he got out and when i tried to BEFORE he got out he fussed me. as soon as his feet hit the.... This is our hunt in Gueydan in Friday morning. 2 specks, 4 mallards, 2 pintails, 5 greys, 7 teal, 1 widgeon, 2 spoonies. we killed them right ahead of the front, they killed very few the next day. nice way to close the split on my behalf.

Lost Dog aroun the Alligator Bayou are in Dewey Wills WMA aroun the Hwy 115 and Hwy 28 intersection. Went after a crippled woodie and never returned. We heard her jump up a bunch of woodies in the buttonwoods, but never heard her after that. If found please call us @ 318.452.2728, 318.253.9873 or 337.316.1947. Her name is Maigre (Meg) and she weighs about 50# and is a very sweet dog.
