I made a pass at The Boat Show today with my buddy Big John. It was a good show with lots of interesting booths and plenty of expensive plastic. Saw a lot of old friends and the SeaTow gang. Come springtime when I run from Myrtle Grove to Elmer's Island, it's good to know that SeaTow has got my back.
Caught a few on a quick bounce trip this afternoon pulling traps north of mid lake. Chrome and blue traps with pink trailer. 2-1/2 colors off the reel at just under 2mph. Got takers on both the traps and trailers Left them biting to avoid the traffic back to Algiers. Saw Capt. Hot Rod servicing a Sea Tow member. It was a nice diversion.
The Duckbusters season has started off slow. Opening day Bari and I took a mixed bag limit but hunted until 08:30 with very few missed shots. Very few other members ended up with limits. Sunday we returned but didn't shoot the guns! Today was my first day back and 2 of us took 6 birds hunting until 09:00, with only 2 missed shots. The water level has been perfect and thew ponds are full of.... Read More
The Duckbusters made their 50th. opening day. It was by no means fast and furious, but enough birds to keep it interesting and for Bari and I to bag a mixed bag of Teal, Grays and Redheads. But overall it was slow for the rest of the club averaging 2.5 ducks per man. Hopefully tomorrow will be better for everyone. ARRIVE ALIVE!!!
Saw a show this morning that was shot in May with Capt. Scott Walker, you know the one 'Get U Some'. It was an awesome show in Lake P. They were pounding the piling jigging up some quality trout and then trolling up some good trout. For those interested there was a lot of really good information shared by Scott relative to fishing the lake, especially the Causeway. Check it out in the.... Read More
Anyone else have a bad salvinia problem this year? It is terrible for us for the first time ever in the Blue Point / Lafitte area. Many of our ponds are covered bank to bank with this stuff. It's awful, and a month ago it all looked as good as it gets with duck food.
Made a spur of the minute run to 4 Bayou from Myrtle Grove. Pushed away at about 10:00 with some cocahoes. After the third set got on a few nice trout before the tide played out. All of the trout were caught on cocahoes carolina rigged. Can't wait for the hot spring bite. ARRIVE ALIVE!!!
Today was tough. Pulled baits on the big bridge from 10 till 3 and only boxed 3 trout. Missed 4 on and off take downs. All the fish were taken south of the cross over on the west side of the south bound lane. Still a beautiful day afloat.
Scott, good seeing you at Bonnabel today. Thanks for the heads up on the close bite. Mr.D was gone when I got out but the bite was still there. He had probably already made his box, like you had. Got on a quick bite on the west side of south bound. One less than Friday but all the fish were a full slot bigger. Back to work tomorrow after 3 weeks of vacationing duck hunting. Life is good.
The ducks slowed up and I'd been wanting to run the Formula, so I put in at Bonnabel at 10;30 and headed north. Started pulling at mid lake and ended up with 16 in about 2-1/2 hrs. No hogs but all quality trout. I enjoyed the feel of a heavy boat under me, a change from 14 days in a mud boat.
The Duckbusters made it out to the lease yesterday to put the finishing touches on some blinds and scout around. Only looked at half or the 3,000 acres and only saw about 50 birds, BW Teal and Greys. Water was still above normal, but I'm sure it's dropping now. Ready for next weekend and beyond
