It has been an up and down year to say the least. This past Sunday was our best day of the season. A duck hunter's day for sure..misting rain, wind howling from the north,
And DUCKS! Haven't seen that many big ducks all season. We all shot our limits and were picky about what we shot - most teal went on to live another day.

Fishing Fridays! Its a new term around the office and Andy Crawford, our editor, was gracious enough to invite me to do some field research (my story and I'm sticking to it)last Friday. If you were on the water that day you know it was perfect weather - a slight breeze with a little north front that left the humidity tolerable.

An incredible first split highlighted by two these drake widgeon on the last day of the first split. We killed limits most days with the majority of bags filled with greys and a few real. Hope second split is close to the first.

Got a little break from the catch up work I've been up to and jumped at the chance to take a buddy out to Lake Cataouatche last Friday afternoon. Two stops and it was on. Baby brushhogs, spinnerbaits and flukes. We ended up catching a dozen or so nice bass. The water near the marsh was perfect and loaded with bait. What a Monday morning! Kevin and Capt. Eric Dumas had been taunting me with stories of how great the fishing has been in Lake Pontchartrain. Couldn't take it any more and it was scheduled for Monday morning. We left from Dockside in the cover of darkness, ran straight out to the trestles, and it was on from the start. Finally got to get back to Grand Isle this weekend and boy was it nice. The tide was dead, the wind blew out of the north at what seemed like 15-20mph, but the fish did not mind. Dad and his buddies love to fish every year with Captain Tim Ursin of Escape Fishing Charters. He's a heck of a person and a pleasure to fish with. This was the second time they let me come on board and boy was I glad. After the intial stop at Campo's for some live shrimp we headed further south. The pictures show where. The good, the bad and the ugly.
First, the good. Grand Isle was simply as stunning as it normally is - a wonderful breeze coming off the Gulf to enjoy while on the deck Friday night sipping a few with some friends and family. The other part of the good was the fishing on Saturday. Lots of fish despite a slack tide being caught over the back reefs, at Grand Terre, and Queen Bess.

A buddy of mine sent me these pictures. Supposedly they were shot off Ship Shoal? I'm not sure about the origin but the pictures are very cool. I have witnessed a buddy of mine riding a whale shark before so that part is confirmed.
