Sorry for the late report. Sunday evening I got the text from Capt. Scott 'wanna go'. Well I gladly accepted the offer. We met up at the launch for 7:30 and headed to our first set of lights. As soon as we pulled up shrimp were popping out the water. Caught fish the whole time at these lights just a lot of throwbacks. Did manage a few keepers and decided to move on. We made a few.... Been a while since I posted any reports, haven't been fishing as much as I would like to thanks to the weather. Here's a report from Saturday (3-10-12).
Woke up Saturday morning and the wind wasn't as bad as it had been the last few days. Drove past the lakefront and the lake looked good. Went back and picked up the boat and headed out to the Causeway. When I hit the bridge I started.... Read More
Made a morning trip with my neighbor this past Sunday to 'the big bridge' in Lake P. Launched at Mandeville Harbor and as soon as we were out of the harbor the fog slapped us. Made the slow damp ride to the bridge and dropped the trolling motor and started working the poles. Caught a couple nice ones right away but had to work at the rest to try and build a nice box. My neighbor caught on.... Read More
Made a morning trip Saturday to run the big boat and do a little fishing. Not a whole lot to show for that morning. On the way back to the launch I saw some birds diving and a whole lot of splashing going on. I pointed the bow toward the birds and saw a whole lot of red. It was the largest school of reds feeding that I have ever seen in the lake. I wish I had my video camera with me, taking.... Read More
Haven't posted in a while, been busy working on the boat and trailer. Getting it ready for the fall run! In between repairs the family and I would jump in the boat for a little ride/line wetting. Haven't been catching much to brag about, my wife and daughters can't seem to get it together for those early morning trips. My daughter Lola caught her first fish (on her own) and was super.... I know someone has asked this question before. What is the best way to clean a fiberglass boat hull? I can get the outside clean, its the inside on the floors that have been giving me trouble. Should I use bleach? Any help would be appreciated.
Made a morning trip with my wife Sunday (6-12-11) to Lake Pontchartrain. Got an early start and headed to Dockside Bait and Tackle to pick up some live shrimp. Said hello to the Dockside crew and headed over to the tracks. Got a spot just in time as they were filling up quick. Started throwing the sliding corks and it didn't take long to find the first trout. However we had to pick through.... Read More
Made a trip yesterday with a fellow Geaux Coastal Fishing Club member (John H). Had to work for them in the wind but we managed to put a decent box together. Fished until early afternoon and ended the day with 34 trout. Thanks again John, was starting to shake due to lack of fishing!
Been out of commission for a while installing wood floors in the house so haven't made too many trips lately.
Made a quick trip yesterday morning to my favorite haunt in the lake. Got the boat in the water just as the sun was cracking the horizon. Saw lots of bait moving along the shoreline and decide to give the top water a couple attempts. That was it just attempts, no takers. Made my.... Read More
This past Saturday was Geaux Coastal Fishing Club's monthly tournament. My wife and my dad joined me in search of some big trout. We got to Dockside at around 4:40am and was the third boat in line to launch. Got the boat launched, picked up the live shrimp, and talked with Terry for a few before making our way to the 5 mile trout hole. The early morning was off to a slow start. My wife.... Read More
My wife told me on Friday that my Father's Day gift from her and my 2 daughters was to spend my Sunday morning fishing. Alarm went off at 3:00 am and I jumped out of bed and began preparing for the morning. Made my way over to Dockside to pick up some live shrimps before heading south to the 5 miles of structure. Got to my spot in plenty enough time to watch the sunrise and had the place all.... Read More
Had to cancel the club tournament due to the weather predictions so us 'die hards' Ole Speck and I made a bittersweet trip yesterday to Lake P. The whole way to Dockside we were talking about how we felt guilty about making a trip with everything happening out in the gulf with this oil spill.
Got to Dockside and there was only 1 boat launching before us. Made the damp trip across the lake.... Read More
Talked earlier in the week with a fellow Geaux Coastal Fishing Club member eastofmrgo about a possible Saturday morning trip depending on what the winds were going to do. Well got the confirmation call and was pumped up for a day of fishing. Alarm went off at 4:30am and got everything ready and met up with Buddy "hot hand" (eastofmrgo) at Dockside Bait & Tackle. Just as I pulled.... Read More
Before work I have been hitting my early morning spot. Fished for a little over an hour each day only to have a skunk in the box all week except for Wednesday. Ended up with 3 decent trout all caught on plastic 2' under a cork.
Got the okay from the wife for an early morning trip to scout out the "Big Bridge" before taking the kiddos.... Read More

I as well as most have been anxiously awaiting the spring weather to get on some trout. Well the past couple of mornings I have been waking up early to wet a line before I start my workday. The first morning caught 5 with 3 keepers, next morning caught 6 with 4 keepers. Not too bad for only being out an hour and a half. All were caught on plastic. Hope this is a good sign for things to come! Now.... Read More
My father-in-laws boat has 2 batteries. I am only getting 12 volts to the trolling motor plug and the motor seems sluggish. The trolling motor is a 24 volt 55lb thurst. Here is how the batteries are currently hooked up: Battery #1 has the big motor and all electronics(depth finder, lights, etc.) hooked up to it. Battery #2 has just the trolling motor hooked up to it. That is why I am only.... Read More
To everyone that was involved in putting on this event:
I just got finished watching online the episode of Louisiana Sportsman TV about The Wounded War Heroes Tournmanet held @ Delta Marina. I have to say what an outstanding job on televising such a great event. What an AWESOME way to show our appreciation to the men and women who have fought and are fighting for our freedom. I hope this.... Read More
