Yesterday I had Don, Tim, and Sean on my boat and it was a beautiful day to be on the water. The winds stayed down, which made for perfect conditions. The shrimp were everywhere in Lake Mechant and we just bounced from one flock of birds to another. A lot of smaller trout were mixed into the catch but it was a great site to finally see some shrimp action. Tim, who is from Michigan, caught a.... Read More

Capt. Chris Venable, Capt. Olden Rodrigue, and myself decided to take a day to scout some new area. The wind was stronger than predicted, again, so we decided to stay on the inside and boy was that a great idea. We started off the morning with throwing topwater baits for speckled trout. It was a blast to see the trout blowing up on the baits. We ended up landing a few, but they sure were.... Read More

  • Chip's first keeper trout while Mr. John is reeling in another.
Tough conditions made for a tough day of fishing. Calm winds, beautiful skies, and hungry fish made for a great start of the day. I only wish it could have lasted a little longer. The speckled trout are very scattered right now. They have transitioned out of there winter spots and into the lakes. We started off on a reef and Mr. John's first cast was a small speckled trout. For the next hour.... Read More

I had the pleasure of taking out Martel, Tank, and Caesar yesterday, who are customers of Gordon's Machine. Mr. Gordy told me he wanted to put these guys on fish and I knew just what to do. We headed straight for the rigs and with clear water we could see the sheepshead swarming the legs of the rig. We were using a 1/4oz jighead, tipped with shrimp, and pitching to them or sometimes we would.... Read More

This was the second annual fishing trip with the Oklahoma boys and man did we smash the reds. A few fished with crab and others hit the ponds and boy did it pay off! 152 redfish were brought back to the dock over the weekend, not to mention the ones we caught and released. Once great times and I can wait to head their way to shoot that monster buck!

I spent the last three days fishing with great people. I want to thank Capt. Bill Lake for hooking me up with the trips. Thursday and Friday were off days for me. Between the cold snap and not being able to get on the fish, we ended up with 31 trout for Thursday and 15 trout for Friday with a handful of reds mixed in. It is days like Friday that make me question my fishing abilities as a.... Read More

I had the pleasure of taking out John Pittman and his crew and the day started off slow and wet. We first tried to find some trout but the rain made the water dirty and after searching for a couple hours, with little luck, we decided to go after redfish. After fishing the first spot for a few minutes, we heard a crack of thunder and that was all it took to chase us back to the 'Lakehouse'. .... Read More

My buddy Zach and his dad, Warren, accompanied me on Friday for a 'Battle of the Bulls' and that's what we got. From the first cast to the last, we caught plenty of reds and drum. We were using cracked crab in about 12-15 feet of water and the fish were hungry. We ended the day with 12 bull reds and 18 bull drum and some sore arms!

Give me a call to get on some of this big fish action.

We left a little later on day 2 because of the water temperature the day prior. We decided to hit the spot that we left them biting the day before, but what do you know, the word got out. There were two boats in the spot and another was ahead of me. No problem, we went around to the back side and boy did we hit the jackpot! Reds coming in every cast but almost all of them were undersize. .... Read More

I had the pleasure of taking Walter Litton, his wife Kim, and also Brad and his wife Stacy on a charter with some non stop redfish action. Day 1 was a morning trip, as I was booked for Saturday afternoon, and it was great! It started off slow because the water temperature had all the fish lethargic. As the sun rose higher, the fishing heated up and about 10 a.m. it was on! All 4 of my guest.... Read More

12-6-2012, I had the pleasure of taking out Jimmy Yancy and his guests, Carol and Lenny. The day started off foggy and a bit slow, as we were catching a lot of smaller fish. After making a few moves, we hit the jackpot. Birds were working everywhere and the trout were coming out the water while chasing the shrimp. The rest is history and we were back at the dock by noon with our 100 trout. .... Read More

It was a great day of catching today. Hundreds of fish were caught, but we boxed 82 specks and 2 reds. If these guys were not being sarcastic then they were not speaking! There were lots of laughs today and even more fish caught! The reds were exploding on the banks again, but our main focus were the trout. High Life Tackle big eyes did the trick under a cork, check out the picture of.... Read More

I had the pleasure of taking out Jimmy Boudreaux and his friends and we had a good day. 67 speckled trout, 1 white trout, 1 drum, and 8 reds were put in the box today. The reds were everywhere! We caught 50+ reds in the 13-15 inch range; glad to see the population is doing so well. Today the fish wanted the big eye under a cork and the two colors of choice were the blue and avocado with red.... Read More

I decided to do a little fun trip and after fighting the fog, I was fishing for about 7am. It didn't take long to put 25 mixed trout in the box. They ranged from 12-17 inches, with a lot of throwbacks. The key was sticking with it and weeding through the smaller ones. I fished with both a cork and double rigs and they both seemed to produce about the same. I caught my last fish at 8:10am.... Read More

Bruce and Joe accompanied me this past weekend to do a little fishing and we had a great time! Speckled Trout are everywhere and are really starting to show their winter patterns. Big thanks to Capt. Bill Lake for setting up the trip. We also tried out some of Capt. Tommy Pelligrin's new, smaller baits and they are incredible! They are tough and the fish love them! I can't remember the names.... Read More

The fishing has been great! Just like Capt. Bill Lake said, the bigger trout are moving in. I had 3 different groups this weekend and we all had a blast catching trout and reds. Lake Mechant and Sister Lake have been my focus, but I have heard that Lake Decade is starting to heat up as well! I have been using a popping cork with a cajun pepper or blue moon bayou chub underneath it.

I had the pleasure of taking out Ron and Paw from Texas. Paw is 81 years young and always wanted to experience what South Louisiana had to offer with the redfish in mind. Well he got what he came for, we boxed 10 slot reds, but caught plenty more. The problem we were having was the fish were big. Paw even commented 'I've never had to throw back a fish before because it was too big'! .... Read More

Another great weekend of fishing down Dularge. We truly are blessed by the amount of fish we have. Keeper trout are starting to really move in, although we still have plenty of throwbacks. Redfish and drum are still slamming our cracked crab. The fishing will only get better throughout the year, so give us a call at Light Tackle Charters and come experience what Dularge has to offer.

September was truly one of the best months I have seen for redfish in a few years. With that being said, October is already making a name for itself. I had two different groups over a three day span and catching is what we did. The redfish were plentiful, the drum were showing off there fighting skills, and the speckled trout are showing up in huge numbers. Both groups had a blast pulling in.... Read More
