My 8 year old wants to go fishing tomorrow afternoon with a few of his friends for his birthday. Any one know where I can put them on some sheepshead, flounder, black drum or reds fishing with dead or live shrimp? I figure it will be too rough with 10-15 knot winds to fish the trestles in the afternoon.
Just wanted to thank the guys at BFC Marine/Gator Trax in Springfield, LA for outstanding customer service. My Briggs & Stratton mud motor has over 500 hours on her now and with the harsh salt water environment I hunt in I have had a few minor electrical problems this year. I guess it's like when you put 200k miles on a truck, things will start to go out. Each time I brought my boat &.... Read More
I'm anxious to get back in the marsh this weekend. The sky high water levels will change the game plan. Unfortunately the high water will push the teal out, but I know where to find the gray ducks in high water.
It is very easy to make and delicious. Grays and teal in the pot with onions, mushrooms, garlic, cream of mushroom soup, carrots and seasoning. Will serve over rice once done this evening. Yum, yum good...
Made a huge batch (4-5 gallons) of duck, andouille and chicken gumbo along with grilled bacon wrapped ducks for NY's Eve last night... Man was it good............
Any reports from Venice in the 2nd split? A buddy of mine wants me to head down there to his camp this weekend for a fathers/sons fishing and hunting weekend, but I haven't heard of anyone doing that well down there. In Venice I normally hunt the Baptise and Red Pass areas as well as some private leases nearby that area.
It appears I shot a hen Common Goldeneye yesterday. Doesn't look like a Barrow's Goldeneye b/c of the black bill. This is my second ever goldeneye to shoot in LA in 35 years of duck hunting. Comments are welcomed, especially if you think it is something else.
Great day to be in da duck blind.... The water was the LOWEST I have ever seen it which is the way I like it. Hunted from 8:30 to 10:30 to fill our limit with 10 greys and 2 widgeon.
Although the duck numbers are way down this year in SE LA b/c of Isaac, I have still been shooting limits on a regular basis. Here are some tips to my fellow hunters:
Boat Blinds:
If you hunt in a boat blind like I do often, then several things you need to take into consideration are:
1. Make sure your fast grass is dark brown that matches your surroundings. Spray paint the grass if.... Read More
Making memories is what it is all about... Still banging the ducks up with a lil' patience, homework and observation. Wev'e been shooting a lot of widgeon this year compared to previous years. The boys are becoming very good shots.
It is such a pleasure taking young ones hunting and seeing the excitment and joy they experience on the youth hunts. It was another successful youth hunt this year and a very special one for dad. I had a great time taking my 2 boys (10 & 7) and their 10 year old friend hunting and fishing this weekend. This was the first duck hunt for my son's friend and he killed a single teal that.... I picked up one of my son's birthday presents today from the taxidermist. He will be 10 on Monday. He shot this in Nov 2010 and calls it the Mardi Gras duck, a drake bufflehead.
Put together a decent box of fish yesterday on St. Patrick's day fishing Biloxi marsh where I caught about 12 nice trout on popping corks drifting in about an hour, then I targeted red fish where I caught my limit on spinner baits. Called it quits before noon. Not bad for March. Fished the Slidell bridges on Friday afternoon and only caught 2 trout trolling and missed a few jigging.
OK, Brand new harness on my trailer, grounded and installed properly. Once the harness was installed my trailer lights (flashers, blinkers and running lights) work properly except for when I hit the brake the lights go off completely. Any idea what my problem is? I know it's not on my harness on my truck b/c I have two other trailers in which the break lights work just fine. Could it be an.... Read More
Fished for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon in 20 knot winds pre-scouting for a tournament next weekend. The wind and super high water made it challenging, but I caught my limit of reds. This one went 26 3/4', perfect tournament size. Hope I can find them like this next weekend. All fish caught on 1/4 oz Red Fish Magic spinner baits in the electric chicken color.
I need help. What brand is a good economical (Under $250) 3 bank on board battery charger for a 36 volt trolling motor system?
I have a 36 volt 101# thrust Minn Kota. Currently I have a ProMariner Pro Sport 15amp 3 bank charger which has broke 3 times. The first 2 times it was under warranty in which they sent me a whole new unit, but now it has failed again and is out of warranty. When.... Read More
I found my problem with my POS 3 Bank ProMariner On Board Charger. It had a blown fuse to 1 of the 3 batteries and appears to be working at the moment, however 1 battery is not fully recovering. After letting the batteries charge overnight I get a voltage reading of 13.22 on 2 of the batteries and a reading of 10.86 volts on the other battery which was load tested too as being weak to bad. So.... Read More
