  • Silhouette shot of an early red fish.
The last two days were filled with red hot fishing with red hot guides. Don Somme' put a fishing group together for PSC and it was a great group of great fishermen. I don't think anyone had a hard time catching fish. The first day was cold but the reds were on the flats catching any sunlight they could to warm up. They also wanted to feed and we gave them something to eat. High Life Tackle....  Read More

I am in need of a deck hand for this fishing season. If anyone wants to come aboard let me know and let me know your experience. Must have transportation to the Cocodrie/Dularge area. A Captain/deck hand would be great.

John and Ethan came down from the cold north to test the fishing down in South Louisiana. They called me a couple of days ago and I told them things were tough but we could go give it hell anyway. They meet me at Falgout Canal Marina for 6:30 and we were off to the Lake. I thought things were going to be bad when I caught the first trout on the first cast. That's never a good thing. We drifted....  Read More

  • All nice trout today only not too many.
My good customer Gary called up just before Christmas day and asked to fish right after Christmas. So off we went and the first stop started off great with the second and forth cast producing trout and then nothing. Make a little move and it was the same thing a couple of trout and then nothing. Move around again and only found small reds and drum. Back to the lake and we put a few more trout in....  Read More

  • Steve McNemar is a great believer in the High Life Tackle Swimmer Gold Tiger color.
Just got this report from Steve McNemar saying not only do the trout love the HLT Swimmer right now but the bass are tearing it up. If you don't know by now the Dularge area is on fire with trout. HLT Swimmer JR. in Bunker or Glow should be outlawed. they are killing the fish.

I ran a couple of days out of Cocodrie for Top Water and it was game on from the start each day. The cold weather had the reds stacked up in deep holes so that make for easy pickings with either dead shrimp or Black/Gold Ripple shad from Berkley. Under a cork or tight lined didn't make a difference on the catch. The reds made it easy to find them as they were blowing up the pot belly minnows on....  Read More

Paul, Matt, and Bambi wanted to catch some trout so I met them at the camp in Four Point and off we went in the wind looking for trout. I was on a mission to get to the same spot my team won the rodeo the last weekend but the trout kept popping up everywhere. This delayed me a little and the high winds and dirty water didn't help either. The good thing about all of this is that the Berkley....  Read More

Matt with his girl friend Alisa came and did a number on the trout post front Saturday. High winds and low water didn't stop the trout from biting. It was almost a one stop shop for the trout as I think we only fished 2 spots for them. Berkley rattle shrimp did the number on the trout with cracked crab getting the drum and red. I started out fishing trout and when Alisa got tired I said I would....  Read More

Kevin Flannagan and family came down for a little catching and man did they do a number on the fish. They put 35 mangroves in the box and had a great time learning the tricks and then putting the fish in. Ms Norm as I called Sheila because she caught most all the fish and the cobia. It was just normal for her to have a fish on most all the time. After the mangrove s and not wanting to catch....  Read More

Scott Corley and gang came down to enjoy a little fishing and catching. I think they got their wish. First off was a little mangrove fishing and we put in 34 groves before we decided to go after the big fish. The amberjacks were biting but the prize of the day was a 29.5 pound Scamp that would have been around 3rd in the state records had we put it in. The mangroves are still thick but getting....  Read More

Larry Dunn was finally able to make his trip this year and what a trip it was. It was Darla, Larry, Dave and Kenny fighting fish the whole time we were out 100 miles offshore. The goal was yellow fin but we had a little difficulty with the numerous dolphin. They would not give a tuna a chance at the baits. What a problem to have. We would hook a few dolphin and then run away from them and put a....  Read More

Gulf State Taxidermy came and with a little screw ups in the mornings Charlie, Bubba, and Ashley ended the day with a great catch of mangroves. On the way down to Cocodrie I called the bait boat and found out Ricky is on vacation this week so I turned around and went to Bait House Seafood for some live bait. Lucky I had my 270 Icey Tek in the truck to put the live croakers in. One problem was....  Read More

Inshore Fishing in Cocodrie / DuLarge in South Central Louisiana
The weekend started with rain and ended with rain, and lots of it. First up was Eric Axley with his son and son-in-law. With solid rain and only an afternoon trip to get in we went to Falgout canal Marina to wait for a break. We got a small window and took to the water. With off color water I thought the dead shrimp would work the best so I armed them with this and I tossed a HLT Anchovy.....  Read More

  • The mangrove masters
Never too late to post this kind of action. This was July 4th.
Paul Snow along with his grandson Luke and friends came and just flat out caught the fish. From start to finish these boys were lit up catching mangrove after mangrove. In the middle of all this the cobia would show up and they would know just how to get them on the line. It looks like the croakers finally got big enough to use....  Read More

Friday it was Kenny Smith and gang from T Baker Smith & Sons. They wanted fish and that is just what they got. The mangroves cooperated along with the cobia. The live croakers have finally got large enough to be effective. It wasn't many at any particular spot but each spot produced a few and after a few spots the numbers began to increase. Along with the mangroves the cobia would show up....  Read More

This week Boyd Parker and gang came down from Texas and wanted to go home with lots of fish - well - they did. First day we went mangrove fishing and put the hurt on them catching their limit fairly easy. Live croakers are still too small to use so we continue to pound on the mangroves with cut pogie. Also during the mangrove fest the cobia would come by and I don't think these guys let one go....  Read More
