Our family was blessed at 3:16am Saturday morning. Our son Ben's beautiful wife, Brittany gave birth to our first grandchild, Lillian Grace Naquin!!! She weighted in at 7lbs. 4 ozs. and measured 19.5 inches long. Both momma and daughter are doing great. Of course, she already has her first camo outfit to go hunting with me! Hopefully, she will enjoy hunting & fishing. Either way, I.... Read More
After seeing how good the weather was on Saturday, my son and I decided to head down Dularge to chase some trout today. After a 45 minute ride, and dodging a big shower, we settled in at our first stop. The day started off slow, but steady. Top waters and plastic was the ticket. Although we never got into the fast and furious action, it was a steady day catching fish all day. A good limit.... Read More
Went down Du Large today enjoy a day of fishing with my son Ben. Started off with a big thunder head not letting us get to our speck spot, so we went to plan B, Redfish! Fished from daylight until about 9:30 catching several nice keepers for the grill and a couple of monsters that were released to fight another day!!! At 9:30, we decided to go back to plan A and see if we could find some.... Read More
I took my son-n-law, Chet fishing down DuLarge this past weekend. Hoped to head out speck fishing along the coast, but changed to plan B an went redfishing instead. Had a great day and caught some big reds. Several 30' to 33' Kept a couple for the pit for some good eating! Looking forward to the next trip!
I took a buddy down Dularge for a afternoon red fishing trip. High winds made it tough, but we managed to limit out in a little less than 2 1/2 hrs. with some real nice reds! Cocahoes in LSA and Blk/Chart were the ticket!
This past weekend, I went hunting with some friends at our hunting camp in Grosse Tete, La. It was my birthday and I received a good present! A birthday Buck. A 7 pt had chased a doe by my climber right at daylight and I tought they had left the area by the time it was good light. Just then the doe ran up and stopped about 30 yds from me. Then I heard 2 deer running in the water. It was 2.... Read More
Today I harvested a good Canadian Deer (South La., really), but it felt like Canada with Temp. of 18 and wind chills probably sub zero. Ice covered all water in the woods and was from 1/4 to 3/4 inches thick. Had to use extreme caution as not to cut 4-wheeler tires, boots, etc. Even being careful, I still cut one of my boots on the ice. After a little scouting I decided to hunt an area where.... Read More
For the past couple of weeks I have been in the Carolina's working with our circulation field managers for the NC & SC Sportsman Magazines. I had the opportunity to make a couple of hunts in NC on some property leased by Bruce (our NC Sportsman manager) & their family. We couldn't have hit it any better in that area as the deer were in peak rut. We saw alot of deer including several.... Read More
I had to drive to Georgia for meeting this past Friday. After the meeting, Chip of Green Ranger Distribution service invited me to make a deer hunt with him on Saturday. We left out about 5 am to head to his lease. Chip had mentioned that there were allot more deer activity this year than usual. He set me up in a ladder stand on a right of way and he took the stand down from me and a friend.... Read More
First, I want to wish all a Safe & Happy Holiday Season.
This past weekend, I was able to take my daughter(Allison) deer hunting in Mississippi. Saturday, the weather wasn't, favorable with temperatures in the upper 70's. We did see 2 spikes on the morning hunt and nothing on the evening hunt. Slow start to say the least. A big arctic front moved through Saturday night and dropped.... Read More
Made a short trip on Saturday morning before work to see if the reds had started hitting in the shallows yet. I took me daughter's boyfriend Chet, a newcomer to the sport. After searching a couple "shallow" bays I thought it was going to be a bad day of fishing. The water was extremely low, winter time low. I kept searching and finally found bait in some small natural bayous and.... Read More
This past weekend, I fished a great charity tournament. The Dreams Come True 3rd Annual Bass Tournament. It is a tournament dedicated to making children’s dreams come true. Please check out their web site and support this great cause any way you can. It would be great to build their bass tournament to the size of the St. Jude Tournament in the coming years. There was a good turn out for.... Read More
Yesterday, I fished the Good Ole Boys yearly bass tournament. The lows were in the 40’s and it warmed up to the 60’s after lunch, but with a “strong” wind. My partner Jerome Danos and I decided to fish and use this tournament as a scouting trip for next weeks CMN tournament out of Doiron’s Landing. We started out fishing Fat Ratz spinner baits (Carolina Shad Chart/Blue flash double willow).... Read More
Last Saturday was the first BFL tournament of the year held out of the Red River in Pool 3. On Friday I decided to scout an area I had located in pool 4 back in October while fishing the Media Bass Circuit Championship. It had all the conditions needed to be a prefect spawning spot. Deep water acess with a great 4' spawning area next to the drop. When I arrived their Fiday morning, having.... Read More
This weekend started the begining of the 2006 Media Bass Circuit with the first tournament held out of Bayou Black. A good number of boats showed up considering the conditions, 30 degrees, and 15-20 mph North wind. Believe me when I say my 901 Nitro/200 Merc Optimax seemed alot more willing to go fishing than me. It fired right up, whereas it took me a while to adjust to the "cold". .... Read More
After many years trying to take a 10 pt., it finally happened! I took this 165# 10 pt. after awaking from a short nap. He was just standing there drinking water from a puddle. Thanks God I woke up before he walked off. I guess lady luck was with me.
One of our members killed the biggest deer I've seen killed in a long time this past weekend. A nine point, 177#'s with a 20" spread. Unbelieveable for where we hunt. We always hoped one of us would have the opportunity to take superbuck, previously thought to be a myth. Well, all I can say is "CONGRATULATIONS" on taking him. Now you can pass the horseshoe to someone else,.... Read More
After several weekends of hunting hard, my son Ben was finailly rewarded with a spike. Congradulations!! Hopefully next year you can get the buck with the busted backstrap!!! LOL!!
Have you ever heard the phrase, "A MAN ON A MISSION"!! That is the only way to describe the way Ree hunted this year. He was determined to bag a buck and finially got the opportunity this past weekend on a nice 3 pt. Congradulations Ree!!
