Looking for advise. Hoping to get a houseboat spot at the wax for this season. Will be starting in dulac. Long haul... Boat is self propelled. My plan is to sail up the Houma Nav canal to the intracoastal. Then south at Calumet cut.

Several questions: has anyone gone through the locks at Amelia? Anything I should know or bring? I've got a VHF radio and GPS, that's about it.....  Read More

Has anyone ever had, worked with, hunted with, or know someone with a dog from Huntfield Kennels. Looking at getting a female lab from them in the next few months.

Trying to get a little bit more information about their dogs.

They are located in Union Church, Mississippi.

Sam Hamilton, the former director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, called

invasive species 'probably the single greatest threat in our country to our native wildlife.' This is what happened to the game especially wintering ducks in southern Iberville Parish. Read the full report ON INVASIVE SPECIES from The Louisiana Sportsman homepage.

You now cant run a mud boat in Plaquemines Parish unless you are on your private land and/or you have written permission from who you are leasing from. If you have to pass through public land or someone elses property to get there your are doing so illegally.

Thanks very much to all hunters that have participated! As of a little over a week ago, it looked like we are going to have the highest sample size we have ever had but the lowest response rate.

We had about:

400 responses from 2,500 mail-out surveys (16%)

180 responses from 2,500 mail-out post-cards (7.2%)

4,700 responses from nearly 25,000 e-mails....  Read More

I just recently inherited some old wooden decoys from a friends grandpa. They have no markings on them whatsoever. How can I find out who these were carved by or any other information about them. Thanks.

Looking for pics & ideas for cypress brake / swamp duck blinds, making blinds that look like cypress stumps, etc...

Please send any pics you may have of your or other persons cypress swamp blinds.

I am considering using large plastic drainage culverts ~5-ft high & covering them with cypress drift wood, small cypress logs, etc...

Any ideas or pics welcomed.

The 2015 Waterfowl Hunter Survey was launched earlier this week. We sent out 3,000 mail-in surveys to randomly selected hunters, 3,000 postcards to another random sample with a link to do the survey on-line, and we sent e-mails to another 20,000-plus waterfowl hunters who had e-mail addresses in the LDWF hunting-license database. We are strongly urging all hunters that receive those surveys to....  Read More

These birds will be returned to the original owner when completed. The instructor will be guiding the entire time. THis will basically be a free flying mount for the two birds in question. No geese or teal. Looking for....  Read More

I heard about folks using square hay bales in the marsh to create new marsh areas (small islands).

Does anyone out there have any experience with this? If so, how did you pin down the bales to prevent them from floating away? How did you get the marsh grass, rozo cane or other vegetation to successfully 'grow' onto the hay bales?

Thanks,
HM
