Here is a neat video I took over the Thanksgiving week out in the Hill Country of Texas near Kerrville of my close friend Gene taking a very wide buck. The shoot was out at 250 yards and he was using his Remington Model 700 in the 300 WSM Caliber. Hope you enjoy
I had pics of this deer for the past 2 years, only one in daylight. He finally slipped up and gave me a shot at 5:05 Saturday afternoon. One shot from my 7 mag dropped him in his tracks. The deer had a 15 inch spread and weighed 205lbs, killed on Westfeild Hunting Club.
Here a 19 point my dad killed a few years back, I know I've posted this picture before and some say this&some say that about it, This was killed in WBR Parish off Mississippi River behind leeve between Orange Grove old Store&Allendale Plantation
I have a 270 WSM and have been shooting 150 grain partition the last few years. Having trouble finding boxes of them. All I can find are 130 grain ballistic tips. Anyone have any info on the ballistic tips? I'm sure I will have to resight my rifle, which isn't a problem. Just want to be able to have basically the same result as my partitions did.
Looking for recommendations on any Day Hunting places between San Antonio and Ozona. Want to take my boys on a hunt in the Edwards Plateau region. They will be the only shooters. Not looking for a trophy ranch, just somewhere that they might have a good opportunity to take their first buck.
I am having an issue with a rifle I just purchased. It's an H&R .270 single shot crack barrel. After sighting it in 3 shots, the 4th, 5th and 6th misfired. The hammer hit the firing pin but did not discharge! Also, after firing, the cartridge did not eject. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Ben and LJ joined us this weekend. LJ had applied to 5 wma youth hunts unsuccessfully so Ben had seen my posts and called me. After passing several deer sat. morning and seeing nothing sat. evening luck smiled on LJ sun. morning.
Have a question about deer antlers color. What decides the color of their horns? Some are dark choclate & some are almost white. Just throwing this out here for some feedback, one of my hunting buddies asked me this question & I told him it was what they eat & minerals. He said someone told him, horns that are white is due to the deer staying in the sun & not in dark areas.
I\'m livid with the ethics some hunters have ! We have been watching a few does since last year . And again this year with their fawns and yearlings this year . On a hunt this past weekend which was either sex . I notice a fawn that just lost it\'s spots just weeks ago and a yearling not big enough to survive on it\'s own without their mother. Just because it\'s a doe day.... Read More
My 10 year old son shot this buck during youth weekend in Mississippi. I was sitting with my 8 year old and my dad was sitting with him. We had plenty of pictures of this deer but they didn't do him justice. They waited for me to come over before tracking, and we I got there they told me he had shot a nice buck. We only had to track him about 40 yards and soon as I saw him I knew it was the big.... Read More
This year my teenage son Matthew showed his first interest in deer hunting. Matthew and my daughter Emily have been accompanying me on hunting trips for deer and turkey since they were little tykes. The hunting trips have tapered off as high school activities have increased. Although hunting is my passion, Matt has not showed much of an interest in taking a deer in the past. When I heard him.... Haven't hunted in 2 years and I brought my 14 year nephew hunting for his 1st time. An 8pt walks out around 5:15. Three shots later and 2 successful, he kills his first deer. I told him this doesn't happen every time you sit on a stand. Congrats Bailey.
