I've recently gotten into shed hunting. Been doing all the reading I can and seem to have a pretty good understanding of what i'm looking for aside for just 'walking through the woods' I have a lab that I trained to shed hunt and is about 8/10 in finding planted horns with artificial scent. My dog is still young so I want to capitalize on fresh natural scent. With that said can anyone tell....
I was wondering if anybody knew anything good to plant around this time of year and in the offseason to help my deer herd. Last season we had a huge decrease in numbers not because of over killing but I believe because of going to adjoining properties. So I'd like to plant some things to keep them around and also help with their growth.
I have access to over 1,000 acres of family owned duck hunting property in the Delacroix/Reggio area that I would be willing to trade or sweeten a deal with for a hunting lease anywhere from Washington parish to West Feliciana in Louisiana or anywhere in SW Miss for the 2015 -2016 season. Would prefer something in the 200 - 500 acre range but would consider any sized property. Would also....
Downed my personal best buck yet on Nov 21st.
As I was watching two does playing around, I heard another splash sound through the swamp along with a grunt. A few minutes later I see this fella step through the thick stuff to make his way to the two does just in front of me. They both stopped and turned watching as he approached. As they began to walk away from him, he continued his pursuit....
Shot this 19.5' 11 point on January 12. I was hunting private land in Tensas Parish and this guy came wading through some flooded palmetto. Didn't have much time to study him but I saw his width and slung some lead. Just waiting on the taxidermist now!
this was my best season EVER!each one of my kids killed their first deer, and two even got their first buck. it was amazing seeing them go from frustration when the deer just would not offer a good shot, to pure excitement when it all came together. they learned many lessons on tracking, scent controll, hunting different phases of the season and waiting for the right shot. we are already looking....
Anyone know the real name of shuck grass? Thats what we call it anyway. I hunt in Iberville parish in some swamp/bottomlands area and this stuff is everywhere. Just looking to educate myself on it, but nothing turns up when i search for 'shuck grass'. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

just floating this feeler out there.
yall who hunt this area, have you noticed a decline in numbers of deer? not just this season but, lets say the last 5 or so years. just a little history. the past 15 years hogs tore up our lease, now not seeing any on the stands, and very very few on camera. the ones on camera are solo.(not complaining, happy)
coyotes in years past were heard every....
My name is Adam and I'm tired of borrowing rifles for deer season. I am considering the 35 Whelen cartridge but would like a few opinions on the make/model to go with. I'm leaning toward the CVA apex but what do yall think? I plan on hunting this rifle all season not just for primitive. Shots range from 50 to 200 yards depending on where I go. I want an accurate, dependable rifle that wont....
Nailed this big 10 point January 23rd in the basin with my bow, during gun season, public land. Don't get any better. 17 yards broad side muzzy mx3 lung shot, ran about 80 yards. 180 pound 10 point. 7:05 in the morning, raining and cold.
I have been tracking this deer for 2 years. Many pictures of him on my trail cameras throughout the years. It was a cold windy morning sitting in my Summit Climber as he approached me. For me personally this is a dream come true. A buck of a Lifetime. Jim Spano
My personal best by far and got it done on public land. As the saying goes beginners luck I guess you could say that. A buddy of mine gave me a call and asked if I wanted to go to thistle wait wma he said he had gone a few times and seen a few deer and some good sign. I gathered my stuff and we headed out we arrived there about 11:00 am and scouted several areas it was soon 2:30 before I knew....
Just getting around to putting a couple videos together of the kid's deer hunts. They are pretty good if I do say so myself!
My 6 yr old boy takes his first deer.... and he worked hard for it. He helped in the food plot, helped work on the stand, put in plenty of time practice shooting, and made quite a few trips to the stand, etc. I don't know who was more excited him or me... but I....
One Sunday afternoon after all the hunters have jumped in there trucks to go home . Whitman Wilcox, asked his dad could he stay one more day. Seeing the eagerness in his eye's, his dad consented. Whitman left the camp about 2:30 pm and took a short walk through the creek behind the camp. While dad is cleaning the camp house from the ending season, a shot was heard from whit's 270. Ten minutes....
