On December 22, 2015, I fought my brother for the box stand instead of the climber before the hunt began. I ended up with our box stand, so around 3:00, we went to our spots. I was watching a couple of does for about 30 minutes when this beauty walked out and I shot. He ran about 30 yards, but unfortunately, we didn't find him until after dark. 240 pound, 10 point stud my first time hunting on....
Always use some thing like a 12' x 12' concrete side walkway block. There about 2' thick so that way it will not rot and last for ever and keep the legs from sinking and rusting away. I also connect cables to each side of the stand at my plat form under the sitting plat form then use a house trailer anchor and screw it in ground until its tight to keep the wind from blowing it over.
Nailed this big 10 point January 23rd in the basin with my bow, during gun season, public land. Don't get any better. 17 yards broad side muzzy mx3 lung shot, ran about 80 yards. 180 pound 10 point. 7:05 in the morning, raining and cold.
After several years of disappointing Duck Hunting, I've began to deer hunt (try). I have a 2 Arpent wide by several hundred yards long of what I call floating marsh grass. I see plenty of signs of deer along the canal that borders the marsh. I'm 150 pounds and I can barely get through the marsh with out sinking. I have a few questions to ask you fine Gents. Do you think the soft, flooded marsh....
It's been a while since i posted, but i figured i'd put up my kills from the 2015/2016 season at my camp in Bama. After years of hard work, and culling out some bad genetics, i am finally killing some decent deer on the property. A good 9, a decent young 8, and a really old/tall 7point i had never seen, that bottomed out our 200lb scale.
If you are tired of hunting and only seeing young, small bucks, or no deer at all, this ad is for you.
Growing big deer in Louisiana is tough. Our regulations encourage shooting young deer, which is unfortunate. Most leases and clubs either follow state regulations or have equally poor rules.'8pts or better' is a terrible rule. So is '15inch minimum inside spread' or '4pts on one....
We got this buck on game camera on 1/15/16 at the Atchafalaya Delta WMA. The antlers appear to be in velvet of some sort. Not sure what it is exactly. Anyone ever see anything like this before at this time of the season?
Got a pic of a nice 10pt with long bladed browtines. As I was looking over pics from last year to try to identify him I noticed this small 8pt. has 3 separate burrs and beams. Sure hope he made it thru last year.
I'm having trouble with eye relief with my scopes. The more I turn up the magnification, the closer I need to get to the scope to see out of it. Have any of you encountered this? The scope is mounted as far back as possible. I've been thinking about cutting the stock back a few inches. Any ideas?? Thanks
when did still hunters get so high and mighty they can kill a animal i thought it was illegal i was raised up dog hunting and loved it as a kid had beagles for years until soterra decides no more dogs just youre money sucker so i got out of it now i have 2 grand kids sad
I took this nice buck in Dulac this morning. After bringing it home, processing it, & camping it out, my son left with it in a 150qt ice chest to deliver to a taxidermist friend in Central, La. He stopped up there to show it to a friend. He inadvertently drove off with the tailgate down & it fell from his truck. Someone stopped & stole the head!!!! It's a 13' 8pt but the left brow....
Let me first say I don't intend to attack the dog hunters though I am firmly opposed to this form of hunting. I support hog hunting dogs, blood trailing dogs, and a good pointer to. My issue is likely the same as many others. Realizing a dog has no sense of boundaries are property lines does that mean the hunters can just follow along as well? What I've witnessed in my last 6 years hunting the....
Just wanted to give everyone a heads up in the Baton Rouge area to keep your doors locked and everything out of sight. Sunday 1-10-16 some SOB went into my shed and stole a list of things mainly hunting equipment, yard tools and a generator. This was btw 10am-1pm and I was home at the time. These degenerates are more abundant and getting more bold in attempts to steal your things. I live in the....
I hunt in the Atachafalaya basin on jakes bayou, there has been some suspicious activity going on in the Dow Canal since the water has risen. I am not for certain but it seems like people getting confortable hunting so far back in the woods that they dont abide by the law. I wish the authorities would look into these hunters traveling down the dow pipe line in go devils.
