I have had good sucess fishing the tides but was wondering if anyone had a technique or suggestion on fishing a flat tide. I have been considering a chum set up for such occasion but not sure if that will work quite like I think. I am new to the salt game but feel like I have fared well in my learning curve for specs and reds almost anywhere I have fished. Any help would be greatly appreciated,.... Read More
Guys. Quick question. I would like to target some of the shallow ponds in Lafitte for red fish from now and into the summer. My question is this. Typically do you guys concentrate south of the Bayou Perot/Rigolets are can productive waters be located in and around the north central parts of Perot/Rigolets?
I have been doing really well soaking shrimp on the bottom near the jetties but.... Read More
I am looking for a waterfront camp to rent for an entire month next year, from approximately mid-February to mid-March, 2015. Looking for something from Cypress Bend area or further south. Want something with boathouse or dock to tie boat up to. Doesn't need to be fancy. One or two bedrooms would be fine. Would consider camp as far north as Lanan area if nice and price is right. Oyster dredging was legalized in Big Lake in 2005 while CCA was too busy in bed with the LWF Commission working to get the restrictive speck limits passed. Here's a graph showing the LDWF Oyster Stock Assessments on the east side of Calcasieu Lake from 2004-2013. Note the near total destruction.
Oyster issues on the E side of the state are more complex with freshwater diversions and the.... Read More

Went out of Myrtle Grove this morning and struggled early to find the fish, but when we did we were in for a fun day. We caught tons of fish but our problem was the fish were to big to keep. Only went home with 6 reds because of size restrictions but it was fun.
Since it has received minimal public notice, I will mention that CCA succeeded in getting their tripletail restrictions passed. In Louisiana, it is no longer legal to keep more than 5 tripletail or to keep individuals shorter than 18'. Both LDWF and CCA have been keeping this quiet, but the new regulation was published in the Louisiana Register in February, making it official and.... Read More

We've been slaying the bull reds in the Cameron Jetties this past year, boating an average of 6 or so per trip, sometimes wearing everyone out. Cracked crab on a 7/0 Gamagatsu Octopus J hook is much more effective than cut mullet. Great times. I've attached a pic of our favorite spots.

My son doesn't have his drivers license yet, and his buddy doesn't have a truck to haul the atv, so he came up with this set-up to crawfish south farm with tomorrow. Figured I'd share so others without atv's might be inspired to come up with their own alternative to hauling gear 500 yards to the ponds. Check out his net grabber/ paint roller. It almost works as good as my golf ball.... Read More
My little boy won't stop talking about me taking him to the Spillway to go fishing and see an alligator. I see the water is on the rise, but will the Verret area or Pat's Bay be affective much by this recent rise? I just need a couple of bream or catfish and an alligator. He wants to pull the gator in really slowly and tape his mouth shut. HA!
