The judge has recorded his ruling on Catahoula Lake.
It is a river, not a lake. The land owners will be be compensated for their losses of flooding their property. The state claiming up to 36 ft msl is gone. The same rules that apply in the spillway will probably apply on the lake. There will probably be very little public access to water. I guess Dewey Wills will become more popular.

Couple of duck die-hards,Bayou Bob,me,and buddy braved the nasty weather predicted and luckily the dense fog never materialized and when it was over,Bayou Bob and buddy each had 2 greys and I was the lucky hunter today, bagging possibly a once-in-a-lifetime true black duck!!Each of us hunted separate palmetto blinds(unbelievable concealment and I even made the comment that with a low....  Read More

First, before reading this, know that it's not a knee jerk post, but one that I've thought about for a while before posting. Also, this is not a rant because no birds were killed on our trip. I am a hunter who fully understands why they call it hunting and not killing.

I was recently invited on a last minute goose hunting trip with Kevin Babineaux at Cajun Wildlife Adventures in....  Read More

Not sure how many folks on here use the Calumet Landing (The Wax Landing) during duck season, but wanted to pass along that the caretaker, Mr. Lester Aucoin has passed away. He was a friend of mine for over 20 years and for me the landing will never be the same. Rest In Peace Lester, you will be missed my friend.

Hey guys I've got a camp in the middle of the marsh that is essentially a metal shack kinda like a quanza hut on posts 10 feet off of the water. We noticed how unbearable it is to be in the camp during the summer when it is so hot even with two air conditioning units and in the winter when it is very cold it is impossible to keep the heat in from a small heater. We sprayed foam insulation all....  Read More

Been hunting the same lease for right at 20 years in the Holly Beach area of Cameron Parish. It has been easily the worst year I have ever experienced. Been a very strange year with weather and obviously high water also. Hope others have done better than we have. This is the first year I can honestly say when it closes on the 17th I won't be bummed out. Hoping for better luck to finish the....  Read More

Growing up there was always talk about how the area around lake Maurepas was so great in the late 1970's all the way to late 1980's for waterfowl. My opinion the reason this area fell off the map was because the introduction of Salvania. The Salvania has created a blanket on top of the water and does not let any aquatic vegetation grow, which in return the ducks do not have feed. From above,....  Read More

At the last 2 Commission meetings, there have been amendments to the proposed 2016-17 waterfowl season dates.

1) 7 days were added to the goose seasons bringing white and white-fronted goose seasons to 88 days:

Both north and south zones: Nov. 5 - Dec. 4 and Dec. 17 - Feb. 12 for snows and specks.

Same for Canada geese but the closing date is Jan. 31.

2) In a surprise....  Read More

As you may already know, Salvinia thrives in warm temperatures and fresh rain. With our mild winter, Salvinia blooms never really went dormant, giving it a jumpstart on the spring growing season. Controlling this invasive specie may seem impossible, however spraying herbicides on target areas will work wonders. Think of it as mowing your lawn, if you don't keep up with it, it will grow out of....  Read More

There have been public meetings throughout the state regarding next years duck season. Anyone been and have anything to report?
Anyone have an educating reason as to why we can't have a season that extends into the first week of February?
Thanks

Two of my buddies and I are looking to get in a duck lease for next season. We live in the covington Louisiana area but don't mind driving a few hours to get to the lease. Any info about getting in a lease for next season would be very much appreciated. Thanks and God bless!

Is the Bayou Dularge area public for Duck Hunting, or do you have to be a member of a club?
Thanks in advance for any info.

Had a pretty on/off season similar to most folks I spoke to. Started promising with an early 4 man limit opening day and spiraled downward from there. More teal than anything with the occasional grey duck to get excited over. Even managed to squeeze in a spontaneous trip to Oklahoma! Here's a video with a few hunts from our season, hope everyone enjoys.

Larry Reynolds, I understand that the proposed duck hunting dates for the different zones were recently published for the duck season for 2016-2017. Where can we find this info?

Ummmm.. what is there to do for three duck guides after the season closes in the Coastal Zone? The wives were thinking about all the honey-dos that had been put off since Septembers teal season. That sounds logical right ? We had hunted almost 50 days of the 60 day season .. surely we were tired of the cold , rainy days in the duck blind. Not!!!

Greetings to everyone and hope you all have had a great duck/goose season.

I hunt Louisiana and the Texas gulf coast just about every year and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good guide in southwest Louisiana to hunt some specklebellys. I drive over from Florida and thought I could find something near I-10.
I'm planning a trip next season back out to the Laguna Madre and....  Read More

Joseph Pommier and family friend Captain Scott Leger of Paradise Outfitters haul out a limit of speckle bellies from Scott's family farm south of Rayne Louisiana. The geese were pretty thick over the holidays and Joseph, his dad and captain Scott made short work of a limit. Captain Scott isn't just one of Venice's most well known Tuna guides he is also pretty dangerous with a speck call.....  Read More

Are there any restrooms or Port-a-Potties at the designated campgrounds on PAL. Whether or not one of the wives in our group comes with us next season hangs in the balance of the answer to this question!
