Inshore Fishing in Delacroix Island in Southeast Louisiana
All we can say is the fishing is just great down here at Sweetwater Marina on Delacroix Island. Capt. Jack's good friend Scott went out today with his father in law to break in their brand new motor and killed 'em. They caught 50 beautiful Trout in the 14 - 16 inch range. And guess what?? The didn't catch them on live shrimp. All were caught on plastic (but we will have live shrimp....  Read More

Captain Paul - GPS Info in Cocodrie / DuLarge in South Central Louisiana
Captain Paul,
I am looking for a reccomendation for a handheld GPS to use for coastal fishing below Houma. I am a first time user, and normally fish Last Island Area, The Pickett's, etc. I need a model that accepts your waypoints, and is easy to use, dependable, and my budget is $250-$500. I also have minimal opportunity to use it for hiking on a couple of camping trips each year. Feel....  Read More

Hand Held GPS units
~ Captain Paul's response to: ~Dugout ~

I would look at the Garmin and the DeLorme line of hand held GPS units. DeLorme has several that should meet your needs as does Garmin.

The DeLorme Earthmate PN will suit your needs. http://www.delorme.com/default.aspx/ I particularly like the Garmin GPS Map 64t for a thumb action control or their Oregon(t) or Montana(t) for a touch screen operation.(https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/cIntoSports-c10341-p1.html)

The “t” in the Garmin model designation indicates that it comes preloaded with USGS type Topographical maps of the U.S. in a 1:100,000 scale, but you can purchase maps via regions in 1:24,000 scale, as well as their Blue Chart NOAA series for offshore needs.

Either of these brands will suit your needs. I suggest that you also consider the 12 volt remote power cables as an accessory and for the marine use their vehicle mount system. I have the base of their mount mounted in my truck as well as my boat. By using the mount and the cigarette plug type power cable, I and extend the operation to time of my unit much longer.

This combo has served me well for marine and on the ground hunting situations.

Please get back with me on your final selection.

April 27, three-year old, 39-inch tall Andrew Angelette caught this nice sized perch (sacalait) on his Shakespeare 'Cars' light tackle in an Oak Alley subdivision pond near Geismar, La. He caught the monster on a ball of wheat bread while eating the rest of the slice. Andrew is the son of Drew and Kristine Angelette.

Has anyone ever seen any seahorses in Grandisle waters. My family was fishing this past weekend and when my grandson and I pulled up one of our crab nets there was a seahorse in it. I couldn't believe it as I have never seen or heard of this in that area. Anyone have any info on this?

Yesterday 4-27-16 my dad and I were scouting for a tournament this coming Saturday. Our last stop of the day was some canals on Bateman Island. On our way out we were leaving a canal and getting back into the atchafalya river. At the mouth of the canal where it meets the river we hit what we thought was either a small log or even a gar fish. It didn't feel like much but when we put the boat on....  Read More

Turkey Hunting in Outside Louisiana

For many years now, I have been blessed to be able to travel out of the state of Louisiana to turkey hunt different species of turkeys and experience the majesty and beauty of our great country. Although I have mainly ventured to neighboring states, this year I was invited to travel to the heartland of north Missouri for an opportunity to harvest one of the larger sized Eastern gobblers that....  Read More

Day 2 with Marion Collier ended just as Day 1 did...big smiles, big memories, and of course BIG FISH! We hit a flock of birds as we were cutting across the lake and picked up 9 lagniappe speckled trout. Our first stop in the holes we found the bite slow, but steady! We made one short move and it was FISH CITY! We had bull reds coming in two at a time! When there's two lines out, it leaves me no....  Read More

We only launched 5 boats today at Sweetwater Marina on Delacroix Island, but 2 out of the 5 smashed 'em in the Twin Pipeline south of Four Horse Lake area. So the fish are out there, you just need to take a short ride to Sweetwater Marina and let us point you in the right direction. And we do have live bait for tomorrow. Looking forward to the weekend the weather is looking spectacular and....  Read More

On Friday we took a seaplane trip out to Breton Island with Captain Theophile Bourgeois. We had a weather delay for about four hours due to a low ceiling. Once it cleared, we had a smooth flight to the island and had fish on within minutes of landing. We waded throwing topwater, suspending baits and tight-lined plastics and put together some great stringers of trout. It was so nice to jump in....  Read More

Marion Collier had a BIG TIME in Dularge this week doing exactly what he asked for...fighting BULL REDS! The bite started a little slower than normal, but was expected considering we didn't catch fish until 9:30am Friday morning! It was like clockwork! When the time got closer, the bites got hot! With 25-30+ mph winds, we had one thing in mind...catch about 6-8 fish, and then head in....  Read More
