Would like to see also

Would love to see this. I went ride to our property today and saw only about 500 bwt. It's amazing how, for about 2 weeks during the first split, our lease was holding thousands of ringnecks and now they are gone. They did not eat our vegetation, they just left. Very unusual. Seems like the first 3 weeks of the season had normal to above normal ducks and the numbers have decreased substantially!

coastal zone survey

rode around the lake mechant / lost lake area last week.......saw a bunch of big ducks. I would say the ducks are down in stronger numbers than before the first opener which i guess would make sense since the north is frozen over. Looking like it should be a good start to the second season.

jjojj...I don't think the ring neck numbers should reflect the overall migration success of our duck population for this season. I also don't feel like the ring neck numbers should influence the zone opening dates. All i know is that the ducks are down right now.....if you don't have any on your lease.....not sure why....maybe because you hunt a more open/ deep water area?

what ?

Glad to hear your area is holding birds - that's a good thing- with regards to the other information you gave- if I understand you correctly- you think that ringnecks are not ducks ? Pretty much they should not be looked at on surveys ? Do you kill a lot of mallards in your area? What about wigeon - if not, should they not be counted as a duck either - maybe we should just do a survey on gray duck and get population - that would be good for all

coastal zone survey

well, i'm not sure yet if we have birds or not where we hunt.... we don't hunt the lost lake area but it sure would be nice to. I'm assuming what I saw last week was at least 80% gray ducks.......I saw some big big ducks which i'm assuming may have been some mallards, and I think i also saw some dosgris which was a first for this year; this was probably in about a 1,000 bird count. I didn't see any teal at all. All I know is riding around that area is usually a good indicator of birds migrating down. Its also just east of the atchafalaya delta which puts it in a prime location. Anyways, we're ready to goo too.......hope its a good one. Good luck to ya'll as well.
