Hunting with a pirogue

Can i get some info on using a pirogue to hunt with. I'll be using a pirogue to get to some areas to hunt this year. I always carry a spotlight, but are some type of lights required? I'll have a life jacket, but is it required? Also, do you have to be out of the pirogue to shoot? Thanks, and any other info you would share would be great.

I'm pretty sure they're slim to none required regulations for a pirogue. You can shoot out of one, no life jacket needed, and no light required.

PFD in a pirogue....

Pirogues, Canoes and Kayaks Must have one Type I; II; or III PFD for each person on board, USCG approved and properly sized and in servicable condition

^^^Copied off the WLF 'required gear for boaters' page.

Didn't see anything about lights, but common sense would say to make yourself seen to anyone else who may be in the area.

I always have my life jacket on while hunting from my pirogue(deer). I don't have running lights, but I do have my headlight on to see, and when I turn it off I keep it handy to flag any mudboats coming through the area. No you don't have to get out of the boat to shoot if you don't have a motor (or trolling motor). Oh FYI-If I bring waders to get out later during the hunt, I never where them while crossing the deep water.
