Deer Hunting in Lake Pontchartrain / Northshore in Southeast Louisiana

Waste of a Fine Animal!

I grew up here, graduated high school & college here & now live elsewhere. It really ticks me off when I find deer that have been shot, mutilated for their racks and dumped by the roadside. I've seen it many times when I return to visit the area for the Holidays & deer season is open.
I took a ride this afternoon
(1/2/2013) down La. 434/Lake Road south which parallels Bayou LaCombe and ends up on the shoreline of Lake Pontchatrain. In between the 2nd & 3rd bridges, on the left/east side of the road I was haulted in my tracks when I saw a beautiful male deer that had been blasted & had 1/2 of it's body skinned & the complete head & front legs. The meat is still red & couldn't have been there more than 1 day. See the attached photos of the wasted deer. I did call the LWFD in Baton Rouge for the St. Tammany area but the agent on duty that I spoke with said that some other calls about the deer had already been placed but not much they can do at this point. Again, what a waste!

Its people like that, who endanger our right to hunt. People who do that should honestly be shot imo.

Sadly tho, there is no law stating how much of the animal you have to keep but there are many laws stating you cannot dump them on or near roadways or populated areas....

Once again, that's a damn shame.

so sad

What a shame to see this. The shot placement is pathetic too. What a waste of some delicious meat. Shame on you whoever you are.

thinking out the drive by box

What about a couple of other sernios , like somebody shot a deer and couldn't find it for a day or so and when they did they find it they didn't think the meat was good or someone else found the deer and they wanted the cape and horns for a mount or maybe practicing taxadermy ---------------------- now it could be a horn hunter or maybe a lazy drunk that shot the deer then got blitzed and left it ungutted in back the truck while he splet it off -------no matter what happened it really tee's me to see it and I got to agree it makes the sport look bad , I live in Lacombe and the back road ditches around here are littered with carcasuses this time of year

spot light

I'd be willing to bet, that deer was shined at night. Prolly right behind the killer's house. pathetic

Seems like this is the fad lately. On our property last month i found 3 does with the hind legs cut off and the rest left to ruin. It had to be at night. called the local warden and reported. He said this has been going on for awhile. sad

Dead deer

I'm more of a meat hunter , but I shot a really nice buck a few years back . The deer was really big and it hurt me that I lost him after knocking him down .

I went back and looked for that deer everyday for 3 weeks . At that point all I wanted were the horns but never found him . It's possible that someone found their deer too late to save the meat .

The bullet wound does look like it was infected compared to the freshly caped out head .

If someone just killed that deer for the horns , they should be caught and severely punished , because that is a real shame .

yea but...

Yea that's always a possibility, but why dump the body a mile past the tree line on lake road. In an area with LOTS of traffic everyday where it will be an instantly noticed eye sore.

Sad to see

What would make someone waste such a nice animal.
I feel the same way all of you do and it makes the old Marine come out in me. Hope they find out who did this.

2 more

I don't know if any of you have been back out there but i went down lake road sunday evening and there were 2 whole does in the canal about 20ft past the first small bridge. Both were missing the backstaps and nothing else........ I didn't get a chance to snap pics, but wish i had. It really is crimminal that people dump these deer out there every year and nothing is done.

what a waste

I hunt here and in a club in Arkansas. Arkansas has a law that you can not waste any meat of any animal we should have a law like this and inforce it. It is a shame that someone would toss that good meat away.
