Flatheads

Had a lot to be thankful for over Thanksgiving. Went to the River and set lines out on Thursday. Went back Friday morning to run them and did better than we expected. Ended up with 26 Flatheads and one blue that weighed 50 lbs. The two biggest spotted cats weighed 60 and 45 lbs. Had fun and filled up the freezer, and a couple other folks' freezers too. The best part was being with family.

Flatheads
Helluva catch. Would you mind sharing what you were using for bait. I set out limb lines and jugs on the bayou where my camp is. We use cut shad but never seem to catch any flatheads. I know they are in there. Heard live bait works best. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Bait
The bait we used were goldfish. Flatheads will only eat live prey. You may get lucky every once and a while with cut shad but their main diet consists of live prey. you also need something tough that wont die after being put on the hook.

Bait
Thanks for the tips. May try bream or small mudcats with the spines clipped off.

Golfish, bream, mudcat
Careful using goldfish. Be sure to check fishing regulations first. Same is true for bream...a game fish. Be sure to check fishing regulations. Nothing ruins an otherwise successful fishing trip than ignorance of the law.
