TWIC enrollment

Just curious how many OUPV (Six Pack) holders have enrolled in the new TWIC federal program?? Sure seems to be just another tax/license scheme to me. Will probably never have anyone ask for it. All the other Captain's got yours yet??

TWIC for the plants...

That's why I had to get mine but I never thought that it would have an effect on fishing captains.

TWIC=Transiate Workers Identification Card...I thought this was for truckers entering federal trade zones(plants) as well as for employees and contractors within the facility.

I hate to open a can of worms here or sound stupid but what does this have to do with someone taking people fishing?

s151 That is what I thought also. Supposedly anyone with a Merchant Marine document from the C. G. will have to have it. Other Capt's may want to check into it.

LAElvis...

While I am NO sort of Obama fan, this twic deal has been several years in the making. It was only put into effect last year. I believe that the first I heard of it was in 06.

I can kinda see the CG thing since they are a BIG part of TWIC. What I don't understand though is that if you are only passing by the facility(and not really that many unless you're on the MS river), what does this have to do with you?

I can see their next move being that anyone that boards your vessel for a trip be cleared with the same documents as well. I hate to put a curse or kink in the business but don't be surprised if it happens or at least some sort of CG clearance. I'm also waiting on it to be illegal to go within x-amount of miles from an offshore rig.

TWIC

I got my 6-pak license a few months ago and they insisted that I get a TWIC card or there would be fines. In my opinion it is pointless because I will never go through any ports where it will be needed. I think the deadline was in March or April.

I used Obama because he is the current puppet for New World Order....he was hand picked to be in job he is in now when he was a teenager going to college in Russia after getting his education in Indonesia....he is not a U S citizen and all I'm asking for is for people on this site to read my links and see all the corruption and deceit that is happening in what used to be the United States of America....now it is fast becoming the Americas...Canada, U S, and Mexico....one country...

T.W.I.C.

= Transportation Workers Identification Credential.
I've had mine since last August and have only been asked for it once. It is part of Homeland security and is required for anyone in the transportation industry to enter security sensitive areas. Why a charter boat Captain would have to get one is beyond me. I guess maybe they are afraid that terrorists might try to take over a marina:)

i work as a petroleum surveyor, and in order to get into any refinery/tank terminal you need it. if you do not have one, you do not get in. period.

matter of fact, i just used it to get into shell motiva in norco. it scans your badge and either accepts or rejects you.

I work in port fouchon as a chief engineer for chouest and all the docks are asking for the card, especialy the c-ports 1 & 2. it is manditory to have the card get into these docks and to work in the industry. our company made people get off to get the card. homeland security at its finest.

I think this is just a tactic to keep track of what everyone is doing. If someone wants to harm these places this card or any regulation that the honest people follow is not going to stop the criminals. After 9-11 I was still working offshore and every dock had a deputy checking ID's, coming and going. It still didn't stop a breech. There were two men that walked right up to the helicopter and could have done anything they wanted to the helicopter with no resistance.

another indirect tax on citizens

Funny how all the citizens have to pay out the wazoo in taxes and fees to earn a living. But an illegal that can access stolen IDs still get jobs, and a TWIC card with the right info.

I don't see why TWIC should be involved with fishing. There's no need to enter secure industrial sites to fish.

Terrorist that want to destroy our industry and way of life don't need a secure pass or a TWIC card

Dress correctly

I had the glorious opportunity to go through this procedure a week ago. Just an FYI - Please dress accordingly. I showed up in slacks and a dress shirt. How was I to know that saggy pants and a "do rag" were mandatory attire! If these folks are a cross section of our nation's work force, we are in a bunch of trouble.

Anybody who works in a facility that has a dock needs one."Like refineries"
The funny thing about them is they were designed to be used in conjunction with biometric card readers. Problem is nobody has or uses the card readers.

When you apply ---do remember your "pin" #.... Talk about a major hassle and the blank looks you will get when you ask some questions. For those folks in the BR area,it may be worth the run to Addis(La1) south. No lines.

Earlier in the week is better too..... Some wear the same nomex jumpsuit..Being on a pogey boat would be better fate in the Summer!!!!
