Where to start, NOLA.

Hey guys,

I'm from the New Orleans area and attend Southeastern. So I'm generally around the northshore and southshore. I have property in MS and love pond fishing. I've just recently started to look for spots on the southshore and northshore to fish things like crappie, brim, catfish, and bass. I've tried Bogue Chitto State Park and City Park lagoons in NOLA so far with no luck. Used a good variety of beetles, spinners, jigs, etc. with not much luck. I would consider myself a beginner level fisherman. Any tips on good places to start in southeast Louisiana for crappie fishing? I have no boat, and am planning on getting a kayak somtime next year. But not yet. Would love to post results.

Finding sac-a-lait from the bank is a challenge. I have access to some nice deep bar pits that you can load up on them but those are private access. As far as bass, bream and cats NOLA city park is a good stop. It gets a lot of pressure but they are in there. I really enjoy fly fishing in there. You can also catch Rio in there which is a trip on a flyrod. Once you get that kayak it will open tons of fishing for you. If you are in the Southeastern area you could head west on Florida and fish under the Tickfaw River bridge or just north of there under Starnes bridge. You are just very limited from the bank unless you have permission from private owners. My suggestion would be to get the yak as soon as you can. Look on this site and craigslist you can pick up a used one.
