Does anyone know when the December duck count will be done? Interested in seeing what the numbers are.

Darn! Don't know if you saw the initial report from Larry Reynolds that is on the front page of the site? Sorry to say it doesn't look good guys.

I was hoping and praying the survey would reveal record numbers of birds in Louisiana. With all the cold weather we have had and the frozen conditions up north the ducks would be here. Don't know about you guys but I was having serious withdrawals last weekend with the ducky weather we had last weekend. Weather does look decent for this weekend.

Where are all the ducks????

Same ole' song and dance every year. Numbers are never where we want to see them. Drought is part of the problem. A lot of your areas that tend to hold birds right now are dry. What little water is here the birds of leary cause they know they about to get shot. Also some of the major areas here in LA don't have the feed that is usually there. Just because there is cold weather up north doesn't mean the ducks are coming. Until the food is gone they will not leave. Just My Opinion.

P.S. I will be out Sat morning. Not quite burnt out yet. LOL!

I wouldn’t put any stock in the LDWF flyover “survey” system. They seem to be very general, which is understandable, but they also ignore the entire northern half of the state. I know many readers are from the south end of Louisiana, but the (very large) number of birds in NW and NE LA are an important piece of the story for them as well.

Not surprised at all.

You can have all the cold weather you want, but as long as they have food and water up north they're not coming down. It's that simple!! If I was a duck, I would rather have corn and grain than ole' sloppy Louisiana marsh grass. Would you pass on a filet mignon to eat a slim jim?

Disappointing as the news is. I'll be out there this weekend. Good luck everyone and be careful.

Scouted my favorite NShore Marsh today and it aint looking pretty at all with zero grey ducks and only a smattering of my least favorite species,Scaup.Hoping for possibly some first-light woodies and maybe some straggling mallards Second Split Opener and hope other duck fanatics like me and Bayoubob and Gerard have success in Second Split.I gladly will take what I get, other than Scaup, and cautiously optimistic!!!
