Re: First Split Recap

Bayoubob,Gerard, and I hunt about 100% exclusively on Public Land,Federal Land to be specific, and our First Split was fairly weak, especially with regards to what is probably everyone's bread n butter duck, greys, but we did kill a nice variety of ducks, including both Green and Blue Wing Teal,a nice Redhead,Mottled Duck, very few Scaup,a few Woodies, widgeon and we are cautiously optimistic about our Second Split, where we shoot most of our ducks. What has me encouraged, besides the ridiculous amount of feed in most of the ponds,is that we may be on some mallards with any luck and we usually shoot a fair number of greenheads per season with a few hens mixed in and our grey duck population needs to re-plenish soon or we will be targeting Scaup(not me)and whatever teal are still hanging around and might have to target woodies and mallards, not a bad thing but by no means a gimme!!The weather might finally be doing us a huge favor and I again am optimistic and love having a nice marsh without tons of pressure and when seasons are weak, only mostly die-hards passionate like us,pursue our feathered friends and dat is plenty cool with me!!!Glad to have what we have and needed a break, both from a professional stance as well as a recreational stance and this split came at the perfect time!!!
