It was open weekend of gun season for deer hunting in north Louisiana and Wesley Brown, of Luing, was not goin to miss it. He had taken a lot of precautions to prepare for this open day deer hunt. Placing stands, siting in his 30-06 & 35 Remington, trimming shooting lanes, putting out cameras, etc. On Saturday, the coldest cold front of year made it's way thru the sate dropping temperatures into the upper 20's. 'On saturday morning's hunt, I saw 22 deer. They were really moving this morning.' Wesley Brown said. In the afternoon, he took the long way around a duck hunting pond to stay down wind and walked into his stand. Every precaution he took paid off. Around 4:30pm, deer began to move around. 'I saw 3 does an a big 5point walking along a ridge next to the duck pond. A few minutes latter, this big 8 point was using the same trail. I was down wind and 15 feet up in a buddy stand. The deer did not know I was there. The big 8 point stopped 55 yards from stand. The crosshairs from my scope was on his front shoulder. Looking at his antlers, he was high and wide and decided to take my 1st deer of the 2016 gun season. The 200 grain Flex Tip Hornady from my 35 Remington found its mark when I squeezed off a round. He wheeled around an ran 30 yards before dropping. I knew he was a good deer because I had him on camera for 3 weeks.' Wesley Brown commented. The Duck Pond Buck weighed 220 pounds, had an 18 inch inside spread, 22 inch main beams, and 6 inch brow tines. He will probably score around 120.
