Good looking deer. That looks like some Mississippi river bottom deer. Just about anywhere around the river has some good deer for the taking. I hunt in W.C. Parish and in the last ten years deer have really picked up on there quality and quantity due to farm land going to CRP and Tree Programs.

Looks like MS river bottoms but it's not. It is a creek bottom, but that's a North Central Louisiana deer my friend! In fact, considering there isn't crop land within 30 miles of this location it makes that big 9 even more impressive.

I've hunted the river though and it is something else! The size and over-all quality of those deer is 2nd to none. Had my first rut hunt last December over there on the river and it was unbelievable!

That really is a good deer for North Central La. Maybe you will get to see him when season opens. Dont know if you bow hunt but its just around the corner.

This will be my very first season to bowhunt, I've gun hunted the past two--so I'm really still new to the sport as a hunter. Grew up around it with all my friends being hunters, but I didn't get to because my Dad wasn't a hunter. He did teach me how to fish though!

But anyways, it really got me excited when I saw the pics of the big 9 because me and a buddy just put up a bowstand about 15 yards from that mineral block you see in the picture. Just need to get in there and trim some shooting lanes at this point.

October 1st can't get here soon enough.

Just a little advice,

When you trim do as little as possible trimming, bow hunting is a whole different ball game. You want to be hid as much as you can be. Cause if one old doe sees you sitting up there at prime time or anytime she will stomp, snort and run everything away from ya.

I've got a buddy who has bow hunted for years that's going to help me cut lanes while also ensuring I don't trim all my cover away. I'll need as much as I can get considering the trail the deer use runs right past the bottom of my stand.

Setting up to be a great fall! Cooler temps start coming into the area next week, many days will have highs in the mid to high 80s.
