I am in the exact same boat. My son also won the lottery for the turkey hunt at Shurbine. I don't know what time, were to go, or what to bring. I would be grateful for any help on this.

In past years the youth hunt has been sponsored by a local chapter of the NWTF. My guess in this situation Krotz Springs chapter. The chapter will provide experienced turkey hunter/guides to lead the youth and guardian to a location that LDWF staff has scouted for birds. They usually assign the hunter/guide in advance so they may contact you. You will be contacted by LDWF to confirm attendance so as to assign alternates if you can't make the hunt. You may look up the Krotz Springs chapter thru NWTF web site and see if they are indeed the chapter that puts on the hunt.

OK, the 2012 MS Turkey Season is fast approaching. I am a small independent Freelance Multimedia Producer interested in making a name for myself in the Outdoor Field Production & Post-Editing Industry, primarily Hunting and Fishing (but not limited to). Here is your chance to “Partner/Team up” with myself to professionally film you, family, or friends hunting up some wily Mississippi Gobblers, Deer and other forms of game species. No strings attached, no fees, simply meet and greet, hunt and video. I have also Guided and Videoed Special Needs kids on Sherburne for the Youth Hunts in the past. Why?? I need to update & capture video footage for a Professional “Demo Reel;” this means I need actual kills on video. All participants will receive either a downloadable link to their personalized video or a DVD of the hunting event – only if we capture a KILL on video; I understand hunting is hunting, but we need hunters who know they have a better than average chance of either harvesting or at least sighting some actual turkey action for the camera. Did you call Tony Vidrine at the office in Opolusis? He is the head biologist for Sherburne and usually has the answer you need. Look on the web for contact office info for Sherburne.

I have not called WLF yet. I did plan on doing so, but wanted to get some 'real life' responses if I could. You would think they would send some type of letter with the permits of what to expect or how to proceed.

guys, Tony Vidrine actually heads up the hunt. The Atchafayla Limbhangers chapter does have alot to do with it. I m not sure if the guide will be assigned ahead of time or not. I do know that 2 of my friends will be guides for the hunt, unfortuntly i will be working and unable to guide this year. If you contact Matt Fruge also of the Atchafayla Limbhangers, he will be assisting with the organizing of the hunt. there is some very good guides that will be there and extemmly great callers. my friend who will be a guide called in 24 birds for kills last year across 4 states....trust me we got some good callers that will be there! good luck to all the kids, i wish i could be there to enjoy the moments of happiness with yall!!!!!!
