Public Land Hunting Maps

I wanted to post here as a bit of an introduction...

Some of you may have seen our ads in the sportsman magazine or heard about us on other websites. We offer full color aerial and topographic maps for all public hunting lands in Louisiana. We also offer maps outside of the state, but the selection is still somewhat limited. If there's an area that you don't see listed on the website we'll be happy to set it up. If you have any questions please feel free to reply to this post or email us at mail@apexmappingsolutions.com or call 225-289-6978. Thanks. www.apexmappingsolutions.com

What is your source of photography?

Do you use your own or do you access Louisiana NAPP photography?

Do you take these pictures yourself and keep copies for later use?

It says on your website

'For most purposes, one to two meter accuracy (approximately 6') is sufficient and the most cost effective option. However, sub foot accuracy is also available.

Note: We are not licensed surveyors and therefore cannot conduct and stamp a property boundary, or perform any other formal survey. Our GPS services are intended for recreational or non official purposes only'

So,6' accuracy? What good is that?

Serious questions.

Are you just basically taking photography that is readily available for free through the atlas.lsu.edu website and selling it?

Map Data

Thanks for the post tuffhuntin!

To sum it up...

No these maps are not downloads from a free site, a lot of work and time goes into them. The accuracy you mention only relates to having us come out and map things on your lease for you...not anything to do with the maps we produce. And the accuracy is actually much better than that, it's just a very conservative estimate of location quality and an option we offer to try to keep things affordable.

    map source

Let me try to word it a little better.

I was wondering what your source of photography was that you use in making your maps.

Do you have your own aircraft, aerial camera, airborne GPS,ETC?

And I realize the accuracy you were talking about was not in the making of the maps.

I was referring to your GIS mapping services listed on your website.

    GPS accuracy

MOJO. As a surveying student in college. I would venture to guess his estimated accuracy comes from what his GPS equipment is limited to. It is much quicker and cost effective for him to go with a mapping grade GPS to get stand locations, etc than with a survey grade GPS as most of his customers just want a simple detailed map. He states that he is capable of submeter 'survey grade' accuracy if that's what you so choose. I'm sure it will be much more expensive for you. As far as his aerial imagery is concerned, I have no clue where it comes from. Again I may be completly wrong, but this is my best guess.

Sorry I haven't replied in a couple of weeks, I've had some issues with the password on my account and been tied up with a few different projects.rnrnGetreel - that's exactly it - and like I said before it's a conservative estimate. All about cost and time invested - keeping prices down as much as possible. About the aerials, we don't have our own flown - thats something I would like to do in the future. I'd honestly prefer not to discuss exact data sources on the forum, but if you have questions you're more than welcome to call me at 225-289-6978 or email me at jason@apexmappingsolutions.com .

    Deerman, shoot me an email.

And thanks to our customers for the feedback, we really appreciate it!

    Mapping Frog Lake Area

Nice work ApexMapping. The State GIS map site is also very acurate. Im a retired surveyor, keep up the great work. Its amazing where these cartoon characters come from. I posted the Found Public Hunting Lands in the hunting forum, you may be able to set some straight on the Frog Lake area in 10S-9E and 10S-10E. I think Tuffhuntin is just a squirrel trying to find a tree to climb. CITY BOY hahahhaa Keep barking tuffhuntin, waiting on your next bark.

Leeroy - I assume you're talking about the State Lands map? There's really not much I could add to the discussion. The guys up there go to great lengths to produce an accurate map for the public. There are sometimes other claims to areas that should be state owned that end up in litigation, but those are usually marked seperately - avoid those areas.

I also wanted to let ya'll know that we're expanding our map coverage again and will now cover Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. If anyone needs a map that you don't see available on the website please ask, we probably have it or will set it up for no additional charge.

    Free data

FYI All of these maps and imagery are free online, our tax dollars pay for them to be available to us.

I could make these in a few minutes.

SpeckT,rnHave you actually purchased one of our maps? I suspect you haven't so please don't make random comments essectially bashing my business in my own thread. I've gone to great lengths and expense to create our own data - the most accurate available and essentially cover the cost of the prints you recieve with the amount we charge for the maps. We're a small Louisiana business trying to do something that relates to what we love. We have a large number of very satisfied customers and I think that speaks for itself.

    Don't need to

'Have you actually purchased one of our maps?'

No, I don't need to purchase them, because I make my maps using free public data.

'I've gone to great lengths and expense to create our own data'

Then you are wasting your time, because you can get these data for free.

'We're a small Louisiana business trying to do something that relates to what we love.'

Good, I respect this... I wish more people did this.

Perhaps you could post some examples of maps you have made that contain data that isn't publicly available to illustrate to me and others how yours are better.

    Meauxjeauxx2 gets it.
