you have know idea what you are talking about a go devil leaves a bigger foot print by tearing up the ground a airboat has some wind a runs the grass over an it pops back up we ran airboats an dogs down there an havnt hurt shit walk if you want an see how fast a mind gets changed when you top chest waders
The WLF's burned our camps probally 4 are 5 years ago now I can't beleive they let everyone buy their camps now. Its all politics we didn't have any crooked helping us here. We have caught redtop dogs before your members have been to the camp down Reserve canal before. This showed how pitiful the WLF's upper management is in this State and thats my opinion. They have 5 piles of garbage on the levees on Reserve canal they did a great job there.
I'm 65 years old and not able to walk the swamps anymore. I've hunted Maurepas all my life and enjoy it. We need to be able to run airboats in these swamps. Older hunters as well as the young and up coming hunters are not able to hunt this WMA because the areas are just to tuff to walk in. Airboats do not harm the enviroment or disturb the animals. Pro-Drives or Go-devils are useless in the cypress swamps, plus they tear up the root systems of younger trees.
Why couldn't the state have designated air boat runs like they have designated atv trails on other wma's? - Do you think airboats would stay on designated trails or do you mean a designated area? - If people hammered the yearlings, is access for deer hunting an issue? I spent a day last Thursday on the WMA - put in at the St. James boat club and rode many of the canals including Bayou Secret, #12 canal, Fusil, Conway, Joe Bourgeouis, Antoine, Tennessee Williams, Cod-dan, etc and water was extremely low and swamps were dry. I only jumped a few wood ducks and saw limited areas a boat could go including airboats. The powerline and pipeline were about a foot out of water. What happens when a boat goes to the middle of the swamp and breaks down and whom do you expect to come to their aid? I am not against anything at this stage and active in wanting to make this public area the best it can be for ALL hunters (duck, deer, small game, fishing, crabs, frogs, crawfish, etc) - I think there are multiple solutions but none are cheap and all have to work their way thru the politics, both federal and state. I am currently working and pushing the diversion of fresh water to rehab the swamps but think another thing that could be done is using natural levees, build canals for water flow and access using soilbanks for additional levees, drain the swamps to kill the salviana and reforestation, flood the swamps and maintain water levels of 18' during hunting seasons and these could be LAA areas only for flooded timber duck hunting. If you feel airboats are a key issue, LDWF meets the first Thursday of each month and has a public comment time at which you could state you opinion to the commissioners.
I love the way people comment on here like the state or the swamp owes them. Our camp was burned by the state, and it boils my blood everytime I think about it, but unfortunately, it is what it is. The only thing we can ask of the state is consistent patrol and to prosecute poachers to the full extent of the law. I just sold my airboat this past year. we dont run em during hunting season and it wasnt big enough to bust the indigo and mud in the summertime. you wanna hunt the swamp, do the work. bust runs by hand or go devil like we always did. I have a go devil, piroque, and waders, and with normal water and a little will power, i can hit any area i want to, but it aint easy. I understand that you get older, the less u can access it, and i'm certain i'll be in that same boat one day. But giving anybody and everybody the right to run all over the swamp in an airboat during hunting season is not the answer. Complaining is the last thing i'll do. I am just thankful that i can still hunt this same area in which i have so many great memories over the past 30 years
it is a big debate you do need to put in the work for it thats while its called hunting but desinated trails would be nice an have sertain hours to run would help but you can only paddle an ride a godevil in so far the south is way better to hunt it has better walking an i do agree we dont need a bunch of ddumb asses running air boats all over the place but if you kill an have to drag it out a mile yhat sucks just letting you go in a get your kill would be nice
i hunt redtop an i have talked to the fisheries an they said if enough people complain they might allow airboats back next year we have to get together an fight it
