Unreal Hunt
Went to a meeting in my coaches clothes near Elizabeth today. I noticed WMA signs on my way home at 4pm. I had my climber in the truck and my bow.
Its my busy season (basketball coach) and I never get an afternoon off so I figured ill pull in and try a hunt. West Bay (I think) and I really dont even know what parish thats in (while filling out tag I had to ?).
So I drive around this massive 58,000 acre WMA and all I see is PINE PINE PINE. At the entrance was a game warden and he gave me a map after I had quizzed him on what the rules of the area were.
So I looked for a creek hoping to find hardwood. No 4 wheeler, no scouting, in my school clothes (I did have my fleece jacket) I set off with my bow (not a ladies crossbow) and climber.
Cross the dry creek and I find a small opening with acorns on the ground. The wind is NUTS so I figured I was wasting time, but if I am not in the woods, Im damn sure not killing one.
Wind dies down, 30 min later a 4pt walks out. Now again, never been here in my life, the truck is 100 yds away and I am in dress pants.
LONG LONG bow shot, he was feeding and coming in but made a turn and I got worried. So I tried a 45yrd shot. He jumped the arrow and stuck himself in the back of the neck with the arrow and hit the ground. Smoked him, never moved an inch.
Is it luck? Naw, hitting one with a truck is luck, I was in the woods.
