Carrying a gun on WMA

Went fishing off the bank in Dewey Wills WMA with wife and kids Saturday. We caught about 20 nice sacs. Well, my wife and I went back Sunday. Just before we enter Dewey Wills, we came across a group of people about 1:30 PM. It appears two waste of good oxygen had caught a cab in Alexandria and lured the driver way out here to rob and stab him several times. Luckily with all the fishermen in and out of the WMA, someone rounded the curve in time to see these two pieces of crap run in the woods. We weren't planning on fishing too far from here, but wouldn't you know it, I left my pistol at home due to rules on the WMA. Here's my question. Why can't I carry a loaded gun for protection in my truck on the WMA? Thank God we heard the driver will be ok and they caught these two a little later in the same area. Oh, we went a little further down the road and were able to pick up a dozen more sacs.

Yes and no

Finally this year thy passed a law that you can carry a consealed handgun on a wma BUT you must be have passed a consealed weapons class or be a POST certefied police officer. The class cost 300 and it's worth every penny. Good luck and go take the class to protect you and your family where ever you go it's worth it.

Thanks

Randy, thanks for the info. I have always thought about taking the class. This just gives me more reason for me and my wife to take the course.

good change

i have always ignored that law. wheni go in the woods i bring the pistol, if they catch me oh well, rather deal with the ticket than lose my life.

Since they changed the law though, i will go get the conceal carry and be legal!

Trust

You know, when we go hunting, we put alot of trust in those we meet. I mean everyone we meet is armed. Even fishing most times, we are in remote areas when we come face to face with other fishermen. It's a shame that it has come down to being armed even during family outings. Even though this started in the city limits of Alexandria, it reached an area that is special to me and my family and has been all my life. So, if they want to bring it to the woods, they better be ready. Thanks to LDWF for allowing us to protect ourselves.

Concealed Carry

The class cost a lot less than $300...they offer it every other Saturday at Bass Pro for $95, I can't remember the guy's name who taught it though. I took it last summer, great class. To get your permit from the state I think is an addtl $100 fee and a $10 fingerprint charge.

Concealed Carry

I think most people should get a concealed carry permit. It would make the bad guys think twice. If you want to get a permit, go to www.gordonhutchinson.com and look at his web site. He is a great instructor and the class is less than $100. Concealed carry is a great privilege and should be considered carefully by all who would pursue it. As for me, I know my family is protected when we are together....and so is yours if I'm around.(no Rambo attitude in that statement.)

Legal with a concealed carry permit

It's legal to carry a loaded pistol on a management area if you have a concealed gun permit. I have a permit and since I usually launch sometimes very early before anyone is there yet, I always carry mine. One time at the Middle Pearl River launch, I thought I was going to need it. Too many drugheads looking for an easy score. Better to be safe than sorry. Permit or not your life is worth more than the ticket cost. Also there is a 'open carry law', so it is not illegal to carry a pistol not concealed in some public places without a permit, but be prepared to answer some questions if stopped by the police.
