Louisiana Big Bucks

Has anybody seen a year that this many big bucks have been killed in this state? This is unbelievable!

big bucks

last year had quite a few also, people are finally starting to realize that passing young deer and other good management practices pays off, big time, Louisiana, in most regions, has great soil and the potential to grow truly giant deer

big bucks

I agree but I think the state needs to lower the bag limit and raise the minimum on antler size,I thin this would produce some really nice bucks in the next few years.

deer limit and size

i kno alot of people in other areas are doin well but does not mean that the rest of us are i dont agree with raising the size cause not all areas have such potential to kill big deer and that would not be right as for the bag limit it could be discussed

to grow bigger bucks

I say leave the total number of bucks killed to be three while putting a mandatory four point or better to be legal. I also say make shooting of fawns illegal. Just because there spots fell off yesterday why should that make them legal to kill?

Horn rules

4 point or better doesn't work. It's bad for the genetics. Ask mississippi. Minimum 12' spread/ 15' main beam is where its at.

antler restrictions

i agree with woodsmaster, a point rule isn't a good idea because you hurt more than you help because the young deer with good genetics who have 6 or 8 pts get killed, you need to have something similar to mississippi's antler restrictions to protect young deer, and there can be different restrictions for different zones where antler growth potential is different according to soil type, most of the state is capable of growing trophy deer though

Less Bucks

What do ya think about limiting the number of bucks to one and still have the three doe limit. That would make people pass the smaller bucks up and try to shoot the bigger ones being you only have one tag for a buck and get your meat from the does. Just my thought.

it would be better in my oppinon to rase the ammount of does you can kill to 4 and lower the ammount of bucks to 2. then put a size limit according to the average antler size in an area. this would in my opinion produce larger bucks killed because 1 it would allow bucks to mature. and second lower the doe population making times like the rut a competiton for the bucks to bread meaning you would see more on the prowl searching for a doe in heat

Cameras

With the growing popularity of game cameras, I think hunters are seeing what's out there and are getting a better grasp of how managent can really work...passing on younger bucks with the hopes of seeing the BIG one they have on camera.
