Deer Hunting in Louisiana

Nocturnal Deer

ALL the trail cam pics I have of deer on my property are at night (I hunt in West Feliciana). I've got two small food plots out and a few rice bran gravity feeders. The deer use both they just don't seem to come out during the day at all. Any suggestions?

Deer

With everything still green, deer can bed up during the day and not have to move to feed.
Wait for everything to die, or the rut.

don't believe your eyes

Don't get to discouraged. You will ALWAYS get more pictures at night than you will during the day. I would believe it would be pointless to hunt if I just went by trail cams as evidence of when bucks move. I think part of it is you can usually see more area when on stand than the trail cams can cover.

Either way don't give up or get discouraged and you can always fall back on the old phrase, 'It only takes on slipup'!

good to hear

Thanks. Those encouraging words are good to hear. At the very least being in the woods on a deer stand with this perfect weather has been enjoyable!

electronic feeder

get one of those feeders that are time released and set it for when you want to hunt. they will hear it and get on a schedule. this will also be more successful as natural food dies or gets eaten in late season.

feeder

I have had issues with electronic feeders and corn making the deer go nocturnal.

Nocturnal Deer

We saw 45 deer during the day last Friday and Saturday in W. Feliciana Parish. My electronic feeders go off twice a day for 3 seconds each. Just enough for them to stick around for a couple of minutes. The more you feed the less day time visits you will have. This year should not have a lot of acorns so the deer should be plenty hungry.

Don,
Have you heard about a low mast year in West Feliciana?
