Unfortunately I purchased the Tundra series thinking colder would be better. This product is made to keep frozen food frozen. I have a chest freezer with a quick freeze mode which runs the compressor 24 hours to drop the temperature. It still takes at least 5 days for it to freeze totally laying on the bottom of the freezer. If on top it won't freeze. This freezer will freeze a 4 gallon bucket....  Read More

Offshore Fishing in Louisiana
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA/NMFS) has had its funding of Amendment 40 AKA Sector Separation cut off in fiscal 2016 probably (appropriations bill not law). Amendment 40 is the amendment that takes half of the recreational red snapper allocation and reserves it for use only on charter boats.

What it means: Right now the red snapper season is again closed in....  Read More

cant believe they let the lease go for Union wma! Killed my first deer there 10 years ago and my most recent last year there! Best chances at getting a deer on a wma in the state in my opinion always worth the drive from Gonzales! Anyone else going to miss Union ?

Inshore Fishing in Vermilion Bay in South Central Louisiana
I have a trip to Sypremort Point in 2 weeks. I know that Vermillion Bay has fresh water this time of year, but has anyone caught trout outside of Marsh Island lately? This would be the first time fishing outside the island for me and my son. Any advice on fishing this area would be greatly appreciated.

Been quite a while since I've posted on here.. I usually just lurk and read.. But we're planning a trip to the island this coming Monday-Thursday and I've a question about how the westerly winds they're calling for in the next few days will effect the water clarity on the beaches. Seems like we've had a southeast wind forever now and the water has for the most part stayed dirty close to the....  Read More

  • Hunter's of public lands should not be denied their Second Amendment rights!
It is truly another sad day for those that hunt public lands in Louisiana. Once again, the legislature, with the passage of SB 212 (2015), and the LDWF decision to not honor this new law for those that hunt public lands, has reaffirmed that there is a two tiered system of justice, or a double standard of rights and privileges, for hunters in the State of Louisiana.

Those that hunt on....  Read More

The Rip has been beautiful the last two weeks; it was approximately 30-50 miles depending on direction. The first week we hammered 125 dolphins with some large bulls, most fish were caught on cut bait, we cast netted live mullet beforehand and it seemed to produce the big bulls. The second weekend was the same story, had a crew from work and it was their first experience to see a rip. The crew....  Read More

I have a Humminbird 1197C SI with the lake maps card. The map is a little limited. I am looking for SP 152 out of Fourchong. We used to fish it when I was a kid. Not sure if it still there. Is there a book with all the passes and rig numbers for purchase?
Thanks

Offshore Platforms
~ Captain Paul's response to: Foxholel 123 ~

I am not quite sure that I know where you are looking as SP 152 is in the Southern area of Brenton Sound and not near the Fourchon area.

Mike Lane of RodnReel at one time had a book that covered some of the Offshore Rigs and reefs, but I don’t know if it is still in print.

However, I suggest that you start by getting at least two general NOAA charts of the local offshore areas.

Chart 1116A and 1115A covers the Offshore Leased Blocks from Cape St. George FL to Galveston TX. These charts show the areas and the blocks in those areas. This is a starting point.

Next, the U.S. government’s agency that has all of the current and past information is the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) has a data search web site.

This site allows the user to search the leased Blocks in the offshore areas.

Try them at:

http://www.data.bsee.gov/homepg/data_center/platform/platform/master.asp

By using the two together, you can pinpoint a block and the platforms in that block.

You may need a more detailed chart once you find your area of interest as the aforementioned are charts that cover a lot of area and do not have a lot of shore details.

This should get interesting

BATON ROUGE, LA (AP) - Bow-hunters can now carry guns of all sizes in Louisiana after Gov. Bobby Jindal signed a new bill into law Monday.

Sen. Rick Ward, R-Port Allen, introduced Senate Bill 212, which removes a restriction on guns for bow-hunters.

Previously, they could only carry guns no larger than a .22 caliber pistol with ammunition....  Read More

I love that this article supports the strenuous efforts of our wildlife agents. They absolutely provide us with incredible opportunities to hunt and fish safely in the best state to do such in the entire United States. This article does, though, overgeneralize a few factors taking away from its accuracy. Yes, game wardens have been known to tow in a boat or even help drag a deer out of the woods....  Read More

Want to pass on an experience I had with our Wildlife and Fisheries agency today. On June 4th, I went to the Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries website, just like I've done for so many years, to renew my hunting and fishing licenses. I've always felt that the $2.50 service charge fee for them sending your license and tags to you in the mail was more than worth the small charge. This year, my....  Read More

Is it just me or is Black Bay not holding the trout right now. I saw a gar at Lonesome Island so I'm thinking the fresh water has got the trout on the run. I'm just getting back to fishing the Hopedale area and could use some good tips on where I could go to find some trout. I haven't been able to get my kids on a good bite like I had experienced pre Katrina and want to get them to....  Read More
