Catfishing near baton Rouge

Hey guys i found out that i don't have school this friday so figured ill go do something productive instead of just sleep all day. well i called my friend who goes to BRCC and he wants to either go bass fishing or catfishing somewhere near Baton Rouge. we really cant go far from baton rouge because I have to be back for basketball practice at 3 and he has to be at work at 3:30. Can you catch catfish in the Amite River? what about bass and bream? that is fairly close. i will be in my 17 foot xpress bass boat with 90 yamaha. so we can travel a good distance to get to the fish if we need too. what about the fishing right where the Amite meets that canal that leads to Lake Maurepas? i think its called the Diversion Canal? since its only one day until duck season i will be bringing the dog along with me and she has never been around a fish so she needs to get introduced. anyone have any pointers for fishing out there? any help is appreciated. or if there is anywhere else near Baton rouge where we could go catch some catfish let me know it would help us out alot. thanks guys and god bless

If you woke up and left for 3:30am and drove you could go fish Belle River and Bayou Pigeon from sun up until noon and then be back in town in time for 3 o'clock.

But if you want to stay close to home and fish Amite I'm sure there's fish to be caught there. It may be hard fishing though. Try fishing the mouths of waterway intersections for Catfish. Good luck.

My understanding has been that when the Mississippi River is high that there is good catfishing to be had just from the banks of the river. I have not explored it but just a heads up.

fishing near baton rouge

Well ive been fishin in and around baton rouge for years.

Here is my favorite spots....

1.False River....its a 35 min ride from br and real nice fishing.....awesome place to spend the day...i grew up on this lake and caught alot alot alot of good bass bream cats and sacalait...fish the piers you will catch something...lots of boat launches too...check out morels or satterfields boat launch,

2. Intercoastal canal...this place is accessible from several locations. easiest is almost directly under the new bridge...cross the new bridge like your going toward brusly, take the exit to the left, then take an immediate right to go toward the port of baton rouge...there is boat launch there and a place to bank fish... I ran lines and traps in the intercoastal between classes at lsu and caught some BIG catfish there. get in a boat and travel a little ways and fish the coves and bayous that come off the intercoastal and you can catch some bream and nice bass...google earth the intercoastal and you can see the bayous coming off the intercoastal

3. Mississippi river....ive fished all along the river by the casinos...good fishing the trees when the water is high or when there isnt much current...more productive with cut bait for cats but never caught a bass or bream there

4.amite river/diversion canal....good place to run jugs and catfish but i never caught many bream or bass here.

thats just a few goood places with in 40 min of baton rouge

fishing near baton rouge

hey flies i sent you an email hope the info is useful. if you fish the amite river around freds i would bump crankbaits and rat-l-traps around rocks and stumps in the bends and cuts in the main river for reaction bites if that doesnt work, i would flip wacky rigged seinkos , and drop shot rigs for a finesse bite...good luck fishing

BR fishing

False river would be my first choice for some bass. I havent fished the amite river lately but I use to go to a launch way down out off Livingston exit. There was some really good bass/sac action down there but when I went there this summer ther owner of the launch told me the fishing had been terrible since Gustav. May be a different story up around freds though. If you put in a fred's be carefull when launching and loading the landing is in terrible shape!

lock your doors

Make sure you doors are locked, anything of value is out of site and don't be surprised if you find your truck broken into from that landing. Just a heads up.
