22nd CCA STAR kicks off May 28

Louisiana Sportsman puts up $10,000 bonus prize in Tagged Redfish Division

The Coastal Conservation Association’s Louisiana Statewide Tournament and Angler’s Rodeo kicks off May 28, with more than 25 divisions offering more than $500,000 in prizes.

And Louisiana Sportsman is sweetening the pot in the Tagged Redfish Division this year, offering a $10,000 bonus prize to the first STAR-registered angler who catches a tagged redfish who is also a current subscriber to the magazine.

Anglers must have subscribed to Louisiana Sportsman at least one day prior to catching any eligible tagged redfish to claim this bonus, so don’t put off subscribing.

The STAR spans the Louisiana coast and is open to anglers of every age — it runs through Labor Day (Sept. 5).

You must be a registered STAR angler to be eligible for any of the prizes.

In addition to the new Chevy Silverado once again up for grabs for the first registered angler who catches a tagged redfish, the Super Chevy Dealers also are offering four $2,500 tackle packages to the first four anglers to catch a tagged speckled trout.

“The tagged trout prizes are guaranteed, so even if the fish are not caught, we will draw for the winners out of registered anglers like we did last year,” STAR Tournament Chairman Snoop Roth said.

Another addition to this year’s competition is the Bank Fishing Division, in which anglers will compete for a 16-foot aluminum boat powered by a 40-horsepower Mercury four-stroke.

Also, the Ladies Division will now offer prizes for both east and west regions.

“STAR is our largest membership drive for CCA, and we always looking for new ways to attract new anglers,” STAR Tournament Director Rad Trascher said. “We hope this will increase participation to keep up our record-setting pace.”

Last year, STAR had more than 13,000 participants.

The Speckled Trout Division still offers STAR anglers four chances to win in four zones: east, southeast, southwest and west.

The heaviest trout in each of these divisions will win a Nautic Star bay boat, Mercury Outboards and Mike Gerald’s McClain trailer package.

The Offshore Divisions still have great prizes up for grabs, including $5,000 tackle packages for the heaviest mangrove snapper, dorado, lemonfish and red snapper.

All kids 17 and younger participate for free courtesy of Academy Sports. All they need is a current CCA membership and to register for the tournament.

The Youth Division has four divisions: east, southeast, southwest and west. And each division winner drawn will win a Cajun Outboards and Mercury boat package.

All youth participants or New Tide anglers are also eligible to fish in all other STAR divisions.
