Pointe-aux-Chenes WMA flounder hotspots

Although the weir on Island Drive is one of his main fall-back options, Ty Hibbs actually prefers fishing a few of the other Pointe-aux-Chenes Wildlife Management Area weirs and bayous because they — in his estimation — actually offer a little bit better fishing.

“I really like the first weir to the south on the west side of the impoundment,” Hibbs said. “But an even better place for me has been right there at the Pointe-aux-Chenes Marina where all three canals meet at the launch.”

Another spot Hibbs loves to flounder fish is a weir behind the game warden camp because it has so much marsh and so many shrimp in that particular spot.

Depending on where he fishes, Hibbs said he has to be aware of the Pointe-aux-Chenes horsepower restriction on some of the impoundments in the wildlife management area.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries regulations state that the Grand Bayou, Montegut and Point-aux-Chenes water management units are only accessible by boats powered by motors 25 horsepower or less.
