Kennedy Tract to open for public use during 2016-17 hunting season, LDWF says
Russell Sage Wildlife Management Area is expanding by almost 2,800 acres after the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries purchased land known as the Kennedy Tract on the southern tip of the existing property.
The 2,767 acres sold for $10.25 million, which came from the department’s Conservation Fund, according to a news release. The new acreage borders Bayou Lafourche in Ouachita and Caldwell parishes, and will increase total acreage on Russell Sage to 37,612.
LDWF personnel will begin working on boundary posting, parking area plans and trail access, with public access to the new property expected during the 2016-17 hunting season.
Until that time, the new property will be closed to the public, the release states.
Russell Sage Wildlife Management Area includes acreage in Caldwell, Morehouse, Ouachita and Richland Parishes, and is located approximately 7 miles east of Monroe and 10 miles west of Rayville.
