Know when to go to the Wall

Currently, the Corps is busy building a road/bridge over the Bayou Bienvenue Locks, which makes it necessary for them to close the locks on weekdays.

The current schedule is to open the locks from 7 to 8 a.m. and then close them between 8 a.m. and noon.

They then open from noon to 1 p.m., closing from 1 to 5 p.m.

The locks are open on weekends unless strong east or southeast winds require emergency closure.

You can call the Orleans Levee District – Emergency Operations Center for changes or updates at 504-286-3100, extension 1040.

If the Bienvenue locks are closed, you’ll have to run the Dike Canal for five or six miles to Violet and exit through the Violet locks.
