Mississippi man dies in boating accident on Pearl River, LDWF says

Incident happened on July 5 near Walkiah Bluff water control structure

A 45-year-old Picayune, Miss. man died after his boat went over the Walkiah Bluff water control structure and he was ejected, according to a press release.

Agents recovered the body of James R. Mann on Monday morning in St. Tammany Parish more than 36 hours after the accident, which happened at about 5 p.m. on Saturday.

According to a surviving passenger, Terry L. Jenkins, 49, of Walkiah, Miss., the men launched their boat from the bank before starting the engine.

As the vessel was adrift, it got caught in swift current and was carried over the water control structure, the release states.

Jenkins jumped in to save Mann, but was unable to locate him, according to the release.

Neither man was wearing a life jacket, the release states.
