Bridge on East-West Road at Russell Sage WMA closed, LDWF says

Existing bridge to be demolished and replaced before 2014 fall hunting season

The existing bridge on the East-West Road at Russell Sage Wildlife Management Area has been closed to all vehicular traffic after a Ouachita Parish Police Jury inspection found it was in need of major repairs.

According to a news release from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, LDWF has decided to demolish the existing bridge and replace it with metal culverts.

The project should be completed well before the 2014 fall hunting season, and vehicular traffic will resume once the project is completed, according to the release.

The public will be allowed to continue using the East-West Road, located south of I-20, from its junction with the main road to the west end of the condemned bridge.

However, the release states vehicle traffic from the bridge east to the end of the East-West road will not be allowed until the project is complete.

Russell Sage WMA is located in Morehouse, Ouachita and Richland Parishes, approximately seven miles east of Monroe and ten miles west of Rayville.
