Body of kayaker found in Lake Charles on May 3, LDWF says

Collins, 24, located without a personal flotation device

Search crews Friday evening found the body of a 24-year-old Texas man in Lake Charles, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Officials with LDWF and the Calcasieu Parish Serhiff’s Office used side-sonar technology to locate the body of Zachary Collins of Silsbee, Texas about 9:30 p.m., the release states.

Agents had originally received a call at around 6 that night about an overturned kayak floating near Interstate 10 beach on Lake Charles, according to the release.

Collins was found without a personal flotation device, the release states.

Search crews determined that Collins had launched his kayak from the beach about 5:30 p.m., according to the release.
