Big Buck Contest features huge deer display

Yamaha Grizzly to be given away in random drawing

No matter if you kill a potential state record or a personal best, you want to make arrangements with your taxidermist to retrieve the antlers so you can enter them in the 2014 Louisiana Sportsman Big Buck Contest.

The contest, which is free and part of the Louisiana Sportsman Show in Gonzales, offers entrants chances to win category prizes and a shot at a Yamaha 350 Grizzly ATV to be given away in a random drawing.

And there’s even a category for Mississippi bucks.

All bucks killed during the 2013-14 season are eligible, as are those from 2012-13 that have not been officially scored or entered in last year’s contest. Bucks killed in prior seasons may be brought in for scoring and display, but are not eligible for prizes.

Every deer submitted to the contest will be entered into the random drawing for the Yamaha Grizzly.

To be eligible for prizes, deer must be entered during show hours on March 14-15. All entries will be displayed on the Big Buck Contest wall until winners are announced March 16.

Categories this year are:

• Best Louisiana Gun

• Best Mississippi Bow

• Best Louisiana Bow

• Best Mississippi Gun

• Best Out-of-State Gun

• Best Out-of-State Bow

• Youth

• Muzzleloader or Crossbow
