Hunter pleads guilty to attempting to take deer by snare, LDWF says

Plea stems from Oct., 2011 incident in Evangeline Parish

A 25-year-old Turkey Creek man pleaded guilty last week to attempting to take deer illegally by snare in Evangeline Parish, according to a press release.

Corey S. Gautreaux was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine plus court costs and his hunting privileges were revoked for two years, the release states. He also was sentenced to 30 days in jail, which was suspended.

On Oct. 23, 2011, agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries had received a complaint that Gautreaux had put out several snares on private land near the St. Landry community off of Frontier Road, the release states.

Upon further investigation, agents found trail cam photos of Gautreaux checking the snares, the release states. That same afternoon, agents found him in a deer stand and he admitted to setting the snares for deer, according to the release.

All of the snares, as well as the camera, were forfeited to the state, according to the release.
