LWFC adds bucks-only still hunt days to 2013-14 hunting season

Commission adds 17 days to Area 7 and seven days to KNF season

The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission today added Nov. 9-15 and Nov. 18-28 in Deer Area 7 for bucks-only still hunting with firearms during the 2013-14 hunting season.

Additionally, the commission added Nov. 22-28 in designated areas within Kisatchie National Forest to provide additional bucks-only still hunting with firearms opportunities during the Thanksgiving week period.

According to a press release, these dates were mistakenly left out of the 2013 Notice of Intent for Area 7.

The on-line version of the 2013-14 Louisiana Hunting Regulations pamphlet has been updated to reflect the changes for Area 7 on page 12, and the KNF changes on page 83. The full document can be viewed here.

Deer Area 7 includes that portion of Iberia Parish south of LA 14 and west of US 90 and all of St. Mary Parish except that portion north of US 90 from Iberia Parish line eastward to Wax Lake Outlet, east of Wax Lake Outlet southward to Intracoastal Waterway, north of Intracoastal Waterway eastward to the Atchafalaya River, east of the Atchafalaya River southward to Bayou Shaffer, north of Bayou Shaffer to Bateman Lake, north and west of Bayou Chene from Bateman Lake to Lake Palourde.

The still hunt, bucks only, modern-firearms areas within KNF include Catahoula (Grant and Rapides parishes), Winn (Winn, Grant & Natchitoches parishes), Kisatchie Ranger Districts (Natchitoches Parish), Evangeline Unit of the Calcasieu Ranger District (Rapides Parish), and the Vernon Unit of the Calcasieu Ranger District (Vernon Parish, excluding Fort Polk/Vernon WMA). Previously approved and announced dates in these areas include Nov. 2-21, Nov. 30 – Dec. 1 and Dec. 14-29. These dates have not changed.

Both actions were taken by Declaration of Emergency since the Commission’s season date rule has already been submitted to the legislative leadership and the Louisiana Register, and insufficient time remained to make these changes via standard rulemaking prior to the opening dates of these seasons, the release states.
