White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area fishing permits now available

Permits available to 100 anglers, good between March 15 and Aug.

Lottery applications for fishing permits to the White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area are now being accepted, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries has announced.

Only 100 permits will be granted through the lottery, and they are valid between March 15 and August 15, the LDWF said.

Completed applications must be received by LDWF by close of business on Feb. 22, the LDWF said.Applications can be obtained by calling 225-765-2812 or online at http://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/refuge/white-lake-wetlands-conservations-area.

There will be a $5 administrative fee for all applicants in form of check or money order made out to the LDWF. Winning applicants will have the opportunity to purchase a $40 permit to fish the WCA.

Only one application per person will be accepted, and submitting more than one application will be considered grounds for disqualification.

Engines used on the property will be limited to 40 horsepower or less. Fishing will only be allowed in the Florence Canal and its associated oil-field location canals. There will be no fishing in the WCA marshes, the main camp canal or any other areas marked “No Fishing.” Permitted anglers
will be given a map of the WCA.

Lottery participants can mail there applications to Lake Fishing, P.O. Box 98000, Baton Rouge, LA 70898, or dropped off in to Room 422 at the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Headquarters Building at 2000 Quail Drive in Baton Rouge.
